This was "our' song. I bought the album when it first was released, & my college roommate & I listened to it endlessly. It perfectly captured our relationship. We were in each others' weddings, she was my kids' godmother, she was in the audience when I performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. I lost her to metastatic breast cancer in late 2018, & now it has even more meaning. I can't listen to it without remembering & missing her terribly.

When the 'Golden Girls' premiered, I was 30 years old but I didn't watch this series. I remember my aunt use to get her snacks and wine every Saturday talking about seeing the 'Golden Girls' on NBC on Saturday nights. I didn't understand what all the fuss about my aunts and mother were making over this series until I watched it later on in life as a man. I fell in love with all 4 characters and I still watch the 'Golden Girls' sometimes nightly on the Hallmark Channel. Now that I am in my late 60's, single, gay, and no children, it is lonely being alone as a senior citizen. The girls bring me comfort every time I watch the 'Golden Girls'. RIP, girls!

I don't ever write personal stuff like this but a couple years ago I flew back to my old home town to see my best friend before he past away from cancer. He was in bed, couldn't talk and we just looked at each other with tears in our eyes and I had the strange urge to sing this song to him, but of course, I didn't. I flew out that same night and his wife called and said he passed. As simple as this song seems, it has greater meaning than any song I can think of. Just hearing this reminded me of that day.

I remember when this song came out in 1978 . I still have it on 45 record. It tears me up each time I hear it now . I had a friend name Brant ,nickname Bunky ...we became best friends in 1977 . We hunt ,fish , in the same classes throughout school to high school . Help work with his Dad's store . He was my best man when I got married to my Soulmate ( me and her now 41 years married, 43 Soulmates) . Me and Brant stayed best friend through the years and while I was in the Army . We would not see each other for q good while and then pick backup like it was yesterday. Well Bunky came down with cancer, beat it the 1st time , had 2 good years and then it came back with a vengeance. Bunky died last year . We were able to say what we had to say to each a while back on the 1st go , but did it again on how much he meant to me and how he always had my back no matter what . Well he fallout at home and the EMS had to get him and they got him to the emergency room , my sister works there , Bunky got my sister to call me while he was fighting for his life and every breath ...He told Me how much he loved me and how much our friendship had meant to him and his Family through the years . How he could always count on me and I never let him down . I could hear the doctors and nurses working on him . His wife and son were with him . I told him I loved him and to fight and hold on ...my sister took the phone and walk out of the room , she told me it didn't look good and his blood pressure kept bottoming out . She told me to get up there asap , which I did . I rush as fast as I could , I was parking my truck ,when my sister call me back and said Bunky is gone ....well this ol Soldier has been overseas in harms way ,and seen alot of death ,and wicked shit that people do to one another . I had gotten hard hearted to alot of things in life at times . I broke down and cried like a child , I couldn't stop it . It took me awhile to get my mess together and my sister let me in the ER . His wife and Son are great friends and she let me say my goodbyes and talk to Bunky , which I will be forever grateful to her for that . Well 3 days later we bury Bunky , my Bestfriend for 44 years ...not a day goes by I don't think of him and our fun times growing and the bad times too . I was the 1st one to get my driver's permit and I would pick him up for school and we rode back qnd forth to school and his Dads shop for years . They say you can count your true friends on 1 hand , I fully agree with that . I had 4 I count , now only 2 left...but Bunky was No # 1 on the list . A True BestFriend is worth their weight in Gold and then some . Sorry yall for being long winded and details I guess. But the ol VA Has been helping me with some things I saw along ago in the Army overseas. I don't like to talk about them , but I learned writing them out helps alot of me . So that's what I been doing and with Bunky' passing it is a hard lick still today . So if you have a Best friend, Mom, Dad ,Brother ,Sister ,or someone you really, really love and care about ....let them know ,make time for them , make those Blessed Memories to carry you through life's end ...cause once they are gone , there is no second chances or replay to make things right . Just my experience and humble 2 cents worth in this crazy world we are all traveling through till our time is up . God Bless You Bunky and keep you till we meet again. God Bless you all , be happy , be safe , protect your loves one's...don't depend on anyone else to do it ...that's your job ... and as the Ol Eagles song goes..." Take It Easy " ....

@CeruleanSeal2 жыл бұрын
@@mariaanadeespana9048 the words of someone so vile and heartless mean nothing to me. You act as though one requires to meet someone in person in order to grieve, and it's such a closed mindset. Clearly, you didn't care enough to know her. Not even just acting where she brought such lovable characters to life, but if you had seen her guest appearances on game shows, if you had watched her own show, you could truly see into her heart. To have the audacity to call her racist when she, the 1st of her kind, gave more air time to a black man on her show at the sacrifice of it getting cancelled is simply baffling to me. Maybe the one who needs to grow up and open their heart is you.

Such a pure, heartfelt statement. It's emotionally easier for a lyricist to hide things behind metaphor, even cynicism. It's the hardest thing to open one's heart and lay it all out like this. It's something I can only aspire to in my own lyrics and poetry.

I had to comment. I lost my little buddy, Logan, and Australian Shephard, last month. As a disabled vet he was me service dog and literally saved my life twice. Asked him to visit me in my dream. This song was the first thing I thought of in the morning. Hadn't heard in in years. AMAZING!! Man's best friend. I've listened to it 20 times at least today.
