I first came to live in NYC 3 years after this came out. The city was pretty much the same as it was in this video. Times Square was seedy, the Meatpacking district had a lively underground, and the Twin Towers stood tall. The entire eponymous album this comes from has bangers on it ("I Got News for You" is especially good), all so fervently controlled by Child herself. She understood funk, rock, melody, and rhythm. I view this 89 song (in my own personal opinion) as the last "hurrah" of the iconic 80s synth sound. Many people dismiss this song as just a wacky pop one hit wonder song but The synth work on this song and other songs like Pebbles, "Mercedes Boy", are done so well that I never get tired of listening to any of them. In fact, Jane Child's 1st album where this song is a part of has amazing synth playing and sounds that were iconic 80s sounds. She was a very talented and underated artist. 👍
