In this video, Dr. Sumeet Jaiswal cosmetic and plastic surgeon explains what are the after care of rhinoplasty and how to manage them. After rhinoplasty surgery we keep dressing for 2-3 days on the nose. The main purpose of dressing is to do away with swelling as soon as possible. After 3 days we replaced the dressing. So dressing mostly stays totally on 5-6 days.
The patient should not let the dressing get wet for next 7 days. The stitches on the nose are self dissolving stitches. Only if in alar base surgery stitches which are on the outside of the nose, those stitches patients need to get it removed after 12 days.
There are some medicines which are antibiotics, medicines for swelling which a patient needs to take for 8-12 days according to his rhinoplasty surgery. There should not be any trauma or any kind of accident on the surgical part for 4-5 weeks after surgery that patients need to keep in mind. After 6 weeks the strength of the nose becomes normal.
In some cases if there is more swelling like in cases of osteotomies (breaking the bone of the nose in surgery). We advise patients to use ice packs near the swelling area of surgery for 2-3 days.
In dorsal augmentation cases or when we are increasing the height of the nose we use silicon, we use some stitches to fix the silicon. Only in some cases where we see there is more mobility do we use stitches on the tie over part of the nose. We remove these stitches after 4-5 days, and this only requires 10-15% of patients.
So, in rhinoplasty there will be swelling, in some cases it is less and in some it is more. The main thing a patient needs to keep in mind is he/she needs to have some patience. Especially in osteotomy, bone breaking procedure, reduction base rhinoplasty. In these kinds of cases it will take 2-4 months to get a complete result. But you will be able to see improvement starting 2-3 weeks after the surgery. We advise nasal drops to reduce swelling. Patients should take them only for 7-10 days.
The cost of rhinoplasty depends on what type of rhinoplasty procedure is required and how long the procedure will be. Roughly the cost of rhinoplasty is 45000- 80000. Normal rhinoplasty procedure can be easily done in 65000-75000.
