I think it is silly that breeders say that you should never outcross. There are times where an outcross is what is needed. I know a top breeder who has created his own variety of modern games (show winners) by using other breeds along with his base moderns. It took him 4 or 5 years, but it can be done. He told me he hatched 80 chicks per cross and culled hard. In New Zealand they have very strict bird import laws, and the fancy poultry breeders there work together to make new variety's all the time. They do this by crossing and what not. It is hard, and takes time and expense, but it can be done.
