The tour manager, hired by the band (or at least, Jack Russell) was later found guilty of negligent manslaughter, though he appallingly only served 2 years in prison. It's one thing to give a description of the band briefly, but to promote them this way, so brightly and cheerfully, is tasteless in the extreme--the day after the tragedy, for God's sake.

Just another example of how the news media gets things wrong, as well. Jack Russell had declared bankruptcy six months or so before this performance, so, yes, he did need the money!! Also, the main "sound" of Great White wasn't just Jack Russell, by any means, but Mark Kendall on guitar, and songwriting (including most of the lyrics) by Kendall, Michael Lardie, and former manager, Alan Nivens. Mark Kendall came in at the last minute to help Jack Russell's tour that was failing. He had had nothing to do with the pyrotechnics idea, and didn't make stupid remarks afterwards, like Russell did or, very publicly on ET, get a $35K facelift so "his outside would match his youthful inside," when many of the survivors were still struggling with grave injuries and scarred skin, missing ears, eyes, and hands, etc., and no settlement money yet from the Station Fire.

I remember when I was in the sixth grade, our health teacher stopped the lecture and told us that there had been a tragedy in west warwick at this club and that one of our classmates father was killed in it. come to find out he was one of my friends and that was one of the most shocking feelings I've ever had in my life. I seen him a couple years ago though, he's in college, me the military and he's doing just great. may they all R.I.P.

My brother knew a guy critically injured. He survived but was disfigured and suffers from PTSD. I know others that knew people that died. This fire is still a painful incident ten years later for many people in Rhody.

I don't know when the foam was installed or how long it had been there, but I read there was an invoice for it's purchase, I think it cost around $597. They had the choice to buy "flame retardant" foam, but it was more expensive.

They ordered sound foam which by law has to fame resistant, however, they received packing foam, you Can’t tell the difference unless tested under a flame. It wasn’t penny pinching, it was a mistake by the foam company, and awful bad luck. We always look for heroes and villains and real life isn’t always so simple.

@@elizabethkeenan7063 I don't know about that and you don't provide any evidence in the form of a link. It's been 2 years ago since I looked that up and I don't remember it at all. However, I do know I worked in a mattress factory and we used polyurethane "egg crate" foam in the mattresses all the time. "This is done primarily because polyurethane is very inexpensive, not because it is high quality." Once we took some of it out back and lit it on fire with a cigarette lighter, it burned almost like gasoline producing the same black acrid smoke than can be seen in "The Station" videos. There is no way in the world that stuff should have been put on the walls of an enclosed space as "sound proofing". You can bet your ass "someone" was responsible.

I'm sure they didn't think about the fire hazard, or if they did, they didn't care. I worked in a mattress factory, we had a room full of "egg crate" foam, we used it in about half the mattresses. There was also a sprinkler head in the foam room. We took some of it outside one day along with some of the "flexatron" also used in the mattresses, and lit it on fire with a lighter. They both burned almost like gasoline, with the same black smoke. Don't smoke in bed.

I think Jack Russell life has basically gone down since this happened. Really too bad. Even if he is totally Innocent, he was THERE ! You know what I mean ? He looks a lot worse now and his health plummeted after this Fire. So hard to deal with something like that. I am suffering and I wasn't even THERE.. Really sad.

It is also the band mangers fault, in addition to the club owners. He was told NOT to use pyro by the club owner and did so anyway. As for the band, the fault lies in their idiotic manager only, not them. I followed the Station fire for a long time and in doing so I ended up becoming a fan of Great White, where I wasn't before. I think they are a great 80's style rock band, this was just such a tragedy that they unfortunately have to bear the burden of and live with.

as for the flamable foam,owners knew because,as I understand,jeff worked for a tv station in boston,and he did a report on this foam,about how flamable it was, a rerun of that show was shown on the news after the fire,so how could either brother state that they didnt know it was flamable?? Shouldnt it be the fire inspectors job to inspect for things such as this?? This small club was overcrowded,whos responsibilty was it to make sure it wasnt??

bro there was other measures that could have been taken to ensure those people never died. such as not boarding up the windows in the hallway.... not filling the building past capacity having a fully functioning security guard who enforced that no pyro rule. the people not parked in the fire route. those 95 dead people are dead because of a stupid manager and a negligent bar owner. i bet nobody saw those alternate exits in there... if there was a level headedperson they would have lived

In 2 minutes you couldn't reasonably stand anywhere in the club because it was fully engulfed in flame inside and the smoke was everywhere. Your assertion is patently wrong. There wasn't a single person that wasn't trying to leave by, at a maximum, the 60 second mark and even that is stretching it. You try standing in a room thick with toxic smoke and see how long you last. Anyway, since NIST documented this event ad nauseum, these are not opinions, but published fact.

The Fire Marshal would have no way of knowing that polyurethane foam had been installed unless someone had brought it to his attention. People hesistated, but only slightly because they had no knowledge of the fire spread that would happen in this situation. Very few people would ever know this was possible had it not been recorded, including fire service personnel. Had they run, it may have been even worse. Don't forget alcohol will slow your reflexes. PS, you don't need to be a jerk.

Fire inspectors only inspect properties maybe once a year, so if it was installed after the last inspection, they'd have no idea it was there. And unless they recieve a complaint, they would not be there to address overcrowding. They don't check every club every night that they're open. And being a small town, they may not have had the resources to do much fire inspection.
