I cannot thank you enough for this interview! It's a wealth of info for me; just diagnosed with severe SIBO. It helps so much, to understand it better - the cause & treatment. Hope...

This podcast revolutionized my clinical practice and KZbin channel! Thank you, Dr. Pimentel! Now, I have GREAT success rates with my SIBO, IBS, and PI-IBS patients AND they get to enjoy FODMAPs and high-fiber plant foods :)

Thank you both, I can`t describe how great it is to listen to someone this knowledgeable about SIBO! I was infected with campylobacter in 2009, I have methane gas levels going from 40-80, and I have had no help from Rifaximin. I´m currently trying a botanical treatment, but I guess I will be fighting this for quite some time... In Norway where I live this is still seen as a psychosomatic illness.
@MandaBeccaBoo8 жыл бұрын
ChiquitaBonita , any luck? what kind of botanicals did you take, if so?
@ninalilleskog77138 жыл бұрын
Amanda Cook the botanicals I took made me really ill, and I could hardly get out of bed, so I stopped taking them. since then I have tried strict paleo, AIP diet going very low carb and that helps a lot, but its hard to keep up with in daily life. I got infected with clostridium in spring and have just been able to get rid of it, so now Im ready to start some kind of treatment again. What about you, do you have SIBO as well?
@ninalilleskog77138 жыл бұрын
The botanicals were Allicin, berberine and oil of oregano ;)

I don't know. I haven't been diagnosed but I've had something for a while now and the symptoms seem to match. I was thinking of trying some oregano oil combined with the fodmap diet, just to see if it helped.

Great interview. The issue I have experienced is convincing my local doctors that SIBO is a real "thing" and that medical approaches to treating it are credible and researched. Usually they dismiss my lobbying, and so, I've suffered with this awful condition for 4 years despite trying everything OTC possible.

Really fantastic information you don’t readily find on sibo. Recently diagnosed with ms and sibo after take probiotics. On rica I’m in and neomycin now without total resolution as of yet

The more I read and search about this the more concerned I get about it because we can see despite doctors are doing great research about those things they are still so lost, they dont have a clue how to solve it. My god I'm so sorry for me and for all the people with these digestive problems because all we can do is to have hope for the future, right now we can't do much about it

In my practice, I've found that the low FODMAP protocol has been very effective in resolving SIBO. The diet is designed to be short term until the problem FODMAPS can be identified. When presented correctly and executed effectively, the low FODMAP diet hasn't been difficult for patients.
@michellezareas82767 жыл бұрын
Highly informative, particularly regarding a low FODMOPS diet during treatment vs not. It appears the dormancy of said bacteria and resistance of antibiotics designed to target SIBO, should be common knowledge amongst specific medical professionals. Thank you!

Thank you both for this informative session! Is the IBS check blood test available? If it is- could you please link to it? Thanks! And how do you remove the antibodies from your bloodstream?
@gutmicrobiomequeen4 жыл бұрын
IBS Check was the first generation test, but now Dr. Pimentel works with and recommends IBS Smart. Also, they have much better customer service and you can order it online without a physician's order, which is great! ibssmart.com/

This was absolutely amazing. You have no idea how much this episode and all of the information in it means to me. Thank you for clearing up some confusion about diet, and teaching me about the safety of rifaximin. I am currently not having much luck with herbals, but still trying, and will be looking to see if I can get on rifaximin shortly. Thank you:)

How did it go? Did the herbals work for you? Thanks!
@sarahjoyce7692 жыл бұрын
So you don’t get all the way better with rifaximin and neomycin treatment…how do you keep healing after the antibiotics? Is answer speeding up motility? I’ve seen several doctors/gastroenterologists totally clueless to this topic and I’m in a very large city with great hospitals so to me that’s terrifying. I basically have had to educate them. Really scary when sick people have to be their own doctor without the appropriate medical training.

What are the thoughts on soil based probiotics? I've heard good things about them for SIBO/IBS sufferers, but, when I personally took them, I later developed SIBO symptoms. Im unsure if correlated, but I can say I never had any problems before when I took regular probiotics that were not soil based. I also took other natural supplements, so I cant say for sure the spore forming ones caused my SIBO symptoms with 100% certainty.
@gutmicrobiomequeen4 жыл бұрын
I personally don't think that spore-based probiotics are the cat's pajamas like the companies would like you to think. For example, the folks that make Megaspore would like you to think that everybody on planet earth need their products. I typically have better results using spore-forming probiotics with folks with IBD rather than IBS or SIBO. Here is a video where I discuss probiotics w/ SIBO kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3i1f3mcpdRkpZY. Hope this helps!

Is SIBO necessarily a motility issue? My diet is high fiber, so I have daily bowel movements, I do still get gas occasionally. My real problem is eczema , and I think it has to do with increased small intestine permeability from SIBO. So is it possible that I have no methanogens, yet increased gut permeability? Thanks! Really great episode.
@angieamarillo7 жыл бұрын
That sounds like candida
@gutmicrobiomequeen4 жыл бұрын
Basically, yes, knowing that you have SIBO means that you've had a breakdown in your normal motility patterns. Keep in mind, that each area of the digestive system has it's own motility. For example, the MMC is different than colonic motility.
@gutmicrobiomequeen4 жыл бұрын
Now, you can certainly have small or large bowel DYSBIOSIS without a true overgrowth, and that could certainly cause gut permeability. Actually, there's a TON of things that can cause leaky gut. Here is a short video that discusses many of them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/opOwk35qapiWftU

I've always had leaky gut (asthma, allergies, ezcema) so I decided to do a colonic and start the AIP diet. After I had the colonic done I noticed my migrating motor complex was damaged and I eventually got SIBO. Now I have severe food allergies, my adrenals crashed, severe anxiety, insomnida and blood sugar problems. I tried the siebecker anti microbial protocol but my immune system could not handle 3 days of it. I can't even exercise or maintain a normal life. I'm wondering if i should just say fuck it and do flagyl ?
@breakage9598 жыл бұрын
+source1st Taking To who ever is suffering this is what helped me out with methane SIBO: First is HCL Betaine and digestive enzymes. Gas-X for gas. Liquid minerals for adrenals is a MUST. For anxiety i use EASEPLUS and for insomnia i use a product called tranquil sleep from natural factors.

I hope they make a cute that's really expensive, that way they will actually want to market it and not keep it a secret from us. The old saying 'the treatment is more profitable than the cure' will hopefully not apply to Sibo.

@@gutmicrobiomequeen Its hard for me to understand but I had no GI issues at all until I went higher fat, low carb and based most of my diet around high vegetable intake. After consuming fermented foods and kombucha I had debilitating GI pain and bloating and suddenly everything began to decline. It became very confusing as going back to a more typical, carb diet (healthier than SAD) actually helped. Where as cruciferous vegetables and high dietary fat would trigger these GI symptoms again.
@gutmicrobiomequeen4 жыл бұрын
@@VitaminJ7734 Interesting (and also horrible- I'm sorry you've gone through that :(). The fermented foods and kombucha thing may make sense in the context of D-Lactis Acidosis (I have some videos about that if you look on my channel). The high-fat diet probably increased the absorption of bacterial toxins like LPS (google the term "endotoxemia"), which in turn would have caused a lot of inflammation and leaky gut. Beyond that it's hard to say, but hopefully that helps you in your journey to figure this out and heal! Best of luck to you.
@VitaminJ77344 жыл бұрын
@@gutmicrobiomequeen well, thanks for the reply. I'll have to look into the D-lactis acidosis video.

I h8 havin a food-baby SIBO 24/7 omg. I went from SAD diet to almost 100% Raw Vegan overnight and did the whole shabang of proper food combining, soak, sprout and fermenting foods and green juicing but that wasn't enough. I guess all i can do is auto-immune paleo low fodmap? I really dont like meat tho =/ and I dont want my asthma and allergies to get exacerbated. Ahhh i dont know wat to eat anymore cant I just go pranarian?
