In this episode of Revolution Health Radio (RHR) we discuss “What You Should Know About Histamine Intolerance.” A lot of my patients are curious about this. I’m not going to say that we’re seeing more of it, because I’m not sure if that’s actually true. I think the awareness of it is higher, so we’re paying more attention to it. It may also be true that we’re seeing more of it, and there are some reasons why that might be the case, which will be revealed as we go through this answer. We’ll go into the basics of what histamine is and then we’ll talk about why histamine might be a problem for some people. Then I’ll finally get around to discussing diet for histamine intolerance.
In this episode, we cover:
What Chris ate for breakfast
What is histamine?
Why histamine might be a problem for some people
Recommended diet for histamine intolerance

standardized Garlic extract and standardized olive leaf extract all work great for anything related to cold, flu, or allergies. The garlic lowers blood pressure comparable to a starter dose of Lisinopril too.

Following the AIP protocol helped me tremendously with some adaptations. It´s definitely an immunsystemproblem with me. Mold in the enironment and foods, detergents and antinutrients are the biggest problem for me. I react with severe eczema, hives, allergies, fatigue, brain fog, anxiety and digestive problems.

+Gigi Kaloostian I eat a mixture of thelowhistaminechef, bulletproof diet and AIP. I have to avoid antinutrients, but I can tolerate egg yolks and whole eggs occasionally, butter, sometimes creme (all organic), and nightshades. I try to eat very nutrient dense. Terry Wahls was also very inspiring for me.

Kinda surprised he didn't mention any actual vitamins or minerals involved in breaking down histamine or involved in methylation...

Like what nutrients would that be? I read B6 is involved in the synthesis of histamine but also DAO and HNMT...

Niacin depletes histamine too. I'm a really bad flusher (and calcium channel blocker and sugar foods amplify it) but after too weeks, there just simply not any left to produce a flush anymore.
@YeshuaAgapao

The body just doesn't flush anymore. The histamine runs out. Skip a day or two, niacin flush comes back.

2000mg 2x/day (4000mg/day total) Twinlab Niacin 1000mg caps. Same stuff the drug addicts use to attempt to cheat on their urine tests. Way cheaper, works just as well as the prescription stuff.

If you're taking more for triglycerides or cholesterol, then If you're not taking fish oil yet, take that first.

Hi! Thank you very much for this educational video. I was diagnosed with histamine intolerance (low daomine oxidase) about 3 motnhs ago. I've been following low histamine diet/suplementing my diet with Daosin (DAO enzyme pils) but i still have the problems. My symptoms are quite different from, what I've read. I dont have a rash or runny nose or anything. Doctors dont really know whats with me, cause all the test show up to be normal but I still have problems. My symptoms include constant inability to concentrate, trouble with "current" memory, for lack of a better term. I keep repeating songs, words or phrases in my head, its like a radio always playing song or the things I am trying to think off. I am alergic to cow milk and when I was eating protein powder that my doctor told me to take ( to suplement my diet, I was anorexic for a long time) I was getting the same symptoms but with much more power. I would just see my vission change and I couldnt focus or think clearly about anything. I would see people talk but I couldnt understand what they are saying. Anyways, these are my symptoms, have anyone experienced something simillar? Could it be caused by histamine? Or should i look for some oether explanation? My doctor is for now going with histamine intolerance diagnosis. If anyone experienced simillar symptoms please respond to my comment. Thank you.

Thanks for the primer, though I've read many blogs, sites, FB posts the last few days whilr looking for ways to help our daughter who suddenly was hit hard with rashes & itching. She's in a customer-facing job, so she's not sure what to do & eat--the lists are not reliable! Truly is YMMV. Sadly, DD is homozygous MAO R297R. (Is this what is mentioned in this YT? Luckily she does not have MTHFR.... unless there are other less known polymorphisms.) She's been using Claritin for about three years.... :( Now to figure it out..... and quickly!

I read that DAO Medicine shouldn't be taken on a regular basis because this could harm the natural production of DAO in the body. I also , like many others with an Histamine problem have problems with Soja and Soja is also on the No Go List of foods. I must add that these Food Lists are very confusing for me and many other patients , because we are all different as you mentioned , some people tolerate some foods in the No Go section and don't tolerate foods in the Ok section and vice versa. The Statistics show that from the 100% of Histamine Sufferers, between 70-80% are woman and the rest are men , so maybe Hormones play and important role , but thats just my opinion. Anyway I'm glad you talked about this Topic because people and especially Doctors should be made more aware of the Histamine Intolerance , which is NOT an Allergie as many people think it is. Thanks.

I have never had allergies always ate whatever. I got my moderna booster and ever since that day I’ve had chronic hives they don’t go away no matter what I do. Only thing keeping them down is zyrtec I tried dieting but it doesn’t help Much. I do notice slightly more flares if I eat junk like pizza or cake. Have you heard anything about this? People getting reactions to the vaccines? And how we can cure it? I’m miserable it’s been almost two months with severe hives daily. 😭

I took DXM and was having a really bad histamine response so i had to get on the floor, where i usually find myself. This made me realize that even without the offending histamine repsonse I have too much histamine! I'm going to eat potato starch and fiber and other stuff to get my gut in tip top shape and also doe parasite cleanse

Why is it that all potassium-rich foods carry histamine? Im trying to increase my potassium levels while at the same time struggling with some histamine intolerance... Im only self-diagnosing myself assuming its a histamine issue as im kinda chronicly stuffed in my nose... I know B6 is involved in histamine synthesis but also responsible for the production of the DAO enzyme (correct)...would taking the active form of B6 (P5P) help the processing of histamine?

Certainly not : most of cereals contain gluten (not so good for leaky gut don't you think?), legumes like beans are histamine liberator, fermented soja is not recommended as all fermented food.

Fresh meat and fresh fish should be ok. Avoid canned meat, canned fish, fermented meat, fermented fish. Depending on where you live fresh fish can be hard to find and bacteria can produce histamine quickly on fish, so, maybe it's better to keep only meat first and reintroduce fish later.

Hi Chris, Thank you for the video it has helped me understand a little about histamine in the body. I have had really bad reactions with foods for 7 years now. it started in 2010 and my GP had it down to acid reflux and irritable bowel syndrome. I am not one for meds and wanted to know why I had these problems, but, couldn't find an answer as she didn't really know herself, as many other doctors so I decided to take it upon myself. After 4 years I found a doctor who did an intolerance test and was shocked to see I was intolerant to eggs, dairy, corn, wheat, barley, yeast and hazelnuts. he also told me to be careful with high fat meats as my system cannot break down the fat. After I eliminated these foods I felt a whole lot better but still not myself. Lately I am Feeling really bad. I have constant acid, migraines, dry flakey facial skin, severe itchy body, and heat intolerance and brain fog I am also underweight at 7 stone. I have been researching a lot as my GP doesn't know whats causing my symptoms. I am wondering if there is any way you could recommend some tests I could go about having to maybe find the root cause as in Histimine levels in the blood or would this even be possible ? is it just elimination diet that will help? I have been changing my diet for 7 years and am exhausted at this point. I am thinking maybe I have an underlying digestive problem and maybe this is why my body is not breaking down these foods as I find it strange to react to so many different foods. I an just confused as to which test to actually take and also which health care professional to actually see. I have tried the GP root but I just leave with a prescription for anti histimines which don't even seem to work anymore. any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks, Amy.

Why does some people with histamine intolerance have hypertension instead of low bp? I have gastritis, GI issues, runny stuffy nose, and red chest after ingesting certain foods. Is this related to H1 or H2 receptors?
@myla6135
@myla6135 3 жыл бұрын
Did you ever find out about the hypertension? I read this : "Histamine itself lowers blood pressure in most cases. However, histamine also triggers the release of other substances in the body that affect blood pressure, most importantly adrenaline, which raises blood pressure". I have a slug of histamine intolerance symptoms but these mostly affect temperature control, skin and gut, possibly pain too although that might be my accompanying Ehlers-Danlos (which might in itself have messed up my gut which then led to all the histamine issues, who knows) but I also have hypertension.

Quite possibly the other way around, too. I've seen SIBO symptoms improve upon treating histamine intolerance, and I've seen histamine issues basically disappear when we treat SIBO.

Histamine intolerance? Sometimes! It depends on the person, how severe the intolerance is (and if it's full-blown mast cell disease), and what other factors are involved. I have successfully helped people with this many times.
