Wow Top! that's gorgeous! My wife told me my tablet was chiming, so I sort of expected my cousin, the King of Nigeria ( us Burton's cut a wide swath) to try and send some more of his billions to me. But then I see this and instead of being bored I get to watch a thing of beauty be created! Thank you! Never did like that cousin!

We must be related! I was once told that I was the only person that could be trusted, do to blood ties, to receive their national treasure, all I had to to was provide my bank account information so they could make the deposit.... I can't believe they tried to give you their treasures too! The rascals!! Thanks very much :)

Hi again from England Mr. Humphrey That's excellent use of an old box there....as so many folk would've just launched it over the wall or on a fire or something.... You must have a lot of patience to do that...and a steady hand... I'm afraid I can be a little heavy handed for such stuff...
@RHumphrey6 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks very much! Perhaps I'm learning patience by doing it... hidden lessons everywhere :) Thanks again, cheers!

SF Brother. Another great job. Keep them coming. As I said before you are an inspiration. Just back from 1/9 reunion in DC. General Mattis spoke at our dinner. Doc Mike.

Thank you, Rod, for another great piece of woodworking. You may recall that I live in Ireland where many of the scenes in Game of Thrones were filmed. It has given our tourist industry a welcome boost with people coming from as far away as Japan to visit the sites. I therefore warmly extend an invitation to you to hop on a plane and I will personally take you round the sites. I will even give you a spin on my lathe:-).
@RHumphrey6 жыл бұрын
Alan, thank you very much! I may just take you up on that at some point. I've always loved your country and would very much enjoy seeing it in person....and see the touristy things from a non-tourist perspective. I'm honored at the offer to spend time with you at your lathe. Drop me an e-mail if you'd like, my address is in the video description. Cheers

Thank you! It's a POW/MIA bracelet in remembrance of GySgt Galen F. Humphrey (no relation) who went missing in North Vietnam on Feb 1, 1966. Thanks for asking!

Each one is better than the last Rod, what sort of wood is it made of? and is it a hard wood or soft? the reason I ask is I wonder how something like our Jarrah or white gum would be to carve compared to a softer wood or maybe how hard it would be to Inlay one into the other? Tony from Western Australia
@RHumphrey6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tony! I haven't forgotten you , mate! This is a very soft wood, mahogany exterior I believe (by the look of the grain, and color) and cedar inner lining. I'm unsure about the inlay thought, but it should be possible.
@MoondyneJoe6 жыл бұрын
I didn't think you had Grin ! I'm unforgettable lol ! how many times Did you have to sharpen your chisels during that carving Rod And how about a leason in sharpening wood carving chisels please?
@RHumphrey6 жыл бұрын
I use a leather strop and jeweler's rouge, 20 to 30 strokes with bevel down, pressing firmly but not overly hard. The a couple stroke on the reverse side to flatten any bur. the end goal is a mirror finish on the bevel. I'll show some of that on my next carving video (yet to be planned) Oh, and I sharpen every time I pick them up for the first time in a session, and again if I feel resistance during a cut.

Very cool! How long, on average did these take to carve?
@RHumphrey6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I usually work on these between other projects so the time can stretch to weeks or more, but total compressed time would be a few days I'd say.

Beautiful mon! Love the chisel marks round the outside! Just out of interest, hiw much would one of these cost and hiw long did it take you to carve? Still enjoying the content! Deffinately my favourite woodwork channel!
@RHumphrey6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! I haven't placed a value on them yet, but I think when I do let them go, it will be as a collection/set. I work on these in between other projects usually, so the time can stretch out a bit. Over all, I'd say I worked on this off and on for about a month...but just a few days of actual time. Thanks again!
