I look at this whole album as a nostalgic kids style folk album, for adults. I really dig the messages of each track along with a delivery that resonates as much as nursery rhymes or Raffi songs from my childhood.

also the majority of the album was made as a tribute to eyedea. Or at least a few songs reference him. They were both mutual friends with him and both collab'd while mourning him and I think there is something really special about it. (the song Bats is the one i mean)

Just because you're a Rhymesayers fan doesn't mean you have to love everything they release. I wouldn't necessarily bump this in my car, but I can appreciate it. I grew up listening to Aesop, and that Def Jux Rhymesayers early 2000's era hip-hop has a special place in my heart. I can appreciate this because I realize that this Aesop isn't the same Aesop that released labor days--he's at a different place in his life, but at the same time he's still pushing boundaries, and that's pretty cool.

This video is strangely heartbreaking. It's like a project to explain to young kids about organ donation, which by itself is already incredibly weird, even more so with the insects and arachnids, but... yeah. It's surprisingly sad, yet warm and a little comforting. At least that's what I got out of it. I love it.

fuckyeahlions The Uncluded have had the same effect on me as you. Everything on their album has everything that I should hate on it but somehow they've taken all that and made it charming. it looks pretentious on paper and might even sound pretentious on a first listen but when you actually listen actively and listen to what's being said, it grows on you. I think that's probably why stuff like this feels too "indie" and pretentious to a lot of people too; acts like this are always doing a little something extra beyond the music itself. It's like the sonic pieces that make these tracks aren't just making songs but are instead making little experiences and the tune is just an atmosphere to it. It's really all about the pretty poems and stories.

I sob my eyes out every time I listen to this song. I’m crying right now as I type this. When I was 22 I moved to another state where I didn’t know anybody and got a new job in a deli. There was this older man named Fred who worked with me. He was the kindest, funniest man. I’m not close with much of my family except my dad and he was like my secondary father figure. I got promoted to assistant manager and then manager and he was nothing but supportive and happy for me the entire time. Then he got sick. I saw his legs get discolored and swollen and then he couldn’t work anymore after a couple months. He died waiting for a transplant in a nursing home. I have always and always will be an organ donor.

It's not surprising that is sounds like it has Juno influence, Kimya Dawson (the lady that sings with The Uncluded) did music for Juno. The point of their cd is to play to both their strengths together, and be experimental. Kimya even raps on one of the songs called "Tits Up", and Aesop took his turn trying to sing when he normally raps. Their is something on the cd for everyone, you're not going to like every song, but I think everyone can respect the exploration of artistry involved in this CD
@gerard.bailey

I like this song, and Hokey Fright in general, save WYHUOM and Tits Up (Superheroes doesn't go on forever or annoy me). But the video for this song is just a tad too PSA-ish. I understand the metaphor taking its direction from Kimya's first verse and Aesop Rock's verses, but the metaphor with the insects wasn't really strong enough to carry through the entire song. I hate to say it, but it would've been better with the common formula of "lip synching in the background with actors performing."

This has to be one of the strangest juxtapositions in the history of modern music and it just doesn't work. I love Aesop's shit, I love the Moldy Peaches but combining them is like oil on water. I don't know who the fuck thought that this was a good idea, but its just plain terrible. I hope they don't get booed off stage because this is a disaster.

This song is a mixture of good feelings and bad ones. It's cheery yet has a dark underlining. Kimya's parts are much more cute and simple, while Aesop lays some really dark stuff. This entire project is amazing. And this is coming from a long time rhymesayers fan. I can understand it not being your thing but there's no need to be so obnoxious about it.

I have to disagree. I think the combination of Aesop's lyrical complexity combined with Kimya's childish sounds have created one of the most unique and interesting albums I have heard in a long time. Granted - it takes a few listens to to get used to it, but don't all the best albums?

Aesop's singing voice. Oh lawdy, not so great. But, his deliviery has vastly improved. I want him to go back to the solo stuff, sounding like those verses.

This song is so great. Somehow hits all these notes and manages to be weird, artful and poignant all at once.

Your prejudice towards your people whom are 'cops' is textbook pretentious. One of those police officers you flip off is my dad, and he is awesome.

No need to be rude. He has a valid opinion considering how different this is from where Aesop started and what stuff usually comes from Rhymesayers.

The guy singing? Not to sound like an arrogant know it all, but do some research. Aesop has been pretty goddamn awesome since the 90's.

This is kinda sad, but not completely depressing. Not sure why, but I feel like I could listen to this a lot more.
