Techno is supposed to be played on 3 decks. You should be layering 2 tracks at all times with a 3rd ready to replace one of the others when it's done. This is how Ben Sims, Umek, Dustin Zahn and Adam Beyer mix.

I dig Deadmau5, and I know about testpilot and his Techno ventures. I respect his knowledge, however, Techno is deff not minimal these days, and atmosphere in the background has been a staple for Dark/Hard/Industrial Techno for years. I think Joel is forgetting that there are many shit tons of sub genres in techno. I think your track sounded great the way it was. Once again, I'm not trying to shit on Joel, I just disagree. My main shit is Techno and has been for years. Joel has majored in more EDM genres for years. Techno isn't what it used to be during the minimal phase from almost ten years ago. These days Melodic techno rules (unfortunately), so other real forms of techno have sped up tempos into the 130-140 range like it used to be. Each person has their own taste, I just felt like his critique was not taking into account the styles of underground Techno. I think your track sounded bad ass!!

Joels more talking along the lines of older techno and minimal techno, I think he prefers that because that what he grew up raving to. As a label owner you have to have certain tastes towards music so he is just giving his personal opinion and tastes, I think he is just saying that in terms of the artist looking to have a song released

Joel, man oh man, huge respect for you, but your relative ear kind of stinks. It's so cringy when he tries to critique if something is out of tune, at least he saved it a bit when he said it was "dissonant", that's correct.

Ah yeah I did find why I think he was put off a bit more than I’d expected - the moog actually was a bit out of tune when I recorded it, -30c I think? That said I do think the track worked without correction, but did correct slightly in the final master nonetheless. Appreciate you 🙏
