Thanks for posting, great sharing of these ideas. Trombone players seem to have it all together!

Shawn: I just listened to and worked with this video. Very helpful; practical, clear, well illustrated by the examples. I'll be listening several time and using these ideas as I work on RC with my local teacher. Thanks

I'm doing "the theme" on rhythm changes as my improv for my NYSSMA solo and this has been soo helpful, thank you so much!

Hey Shawn, I got full points on my NYSSMA solo improv and I just wanted to thank you, I was able to do some ii-V's in the b section and I followed a few of the voice leadings in your second video. Thanks again! P.S. do you have any tips for trombone solos I should transcribe?

@@CopelandBaker Great job! As far as solos, I really like to see players start with at least a few JJ solos. He is great for establishing a solid approach to sound, time, and the types of ideas that work well on trombone. I like the following tunes to start with. "Old Devil Moon" The Emminent JJ Johnson volume 2 "Barbados" Dial JJ 5 "Now's The Time" JJ In Person I also really like Chet Baker for transcription material for high school aged trombone players. The album "She Was Too Good To Me" has great solos on "Autumn Leaves" and "Tangerine" on it. Both solos are very playable on trombone, and the ideas are very clear and "easy" to hear for the most part.
