How do you get a lot of gems before new cards come? I spent 6000 gems for some good cards and now I only have 709

So per event I usually spend between 1k and 3.5k . Depends on the event , I don't go such big numbers as 6k cuz I would like to have some diamonds if new events pop up,I could skip some events and save diamonds, but I mainly do the events for content.
