Mass Appeal

7 жыл бұрын

For this episode of Rhythm Roulette, MASS APPEAL met up with one of Atlanta's most influential producers, London On Da Track. As a mainstay of the Atlanta production world, London has played an instrumental role in the development of Young Thug's career, crafting some of the greatest hits in the enigmatic Atlien's catalogue. His time with Thugger has blessed the world with standouts such as "Lifestyle," "About Da Money" and "Check." Let's also not forget London's work with other Atlanta heavyweights, as he was the mastermind behind 21 Savage and Drake's collab "Sneakin'" as well as countless bangers with artists like French Montana, Gucci Mane, Birdman, 2 Chainz and many others.
Helping to define the soundscape coming out of Atlanta, who knows what the sound of trap music would be without London? True to his discography, London decided to bring the trap to Rhythm Roulette. In that spirit, he took his chances, pulling three records from A1 Records in New York.
London ended up with Phyllis Hyman's "Living All Alone," Rahsaan Roland Kirk's "Blacknuss" and a house record from Jesse Saunders. Making quick decisions, London ends up sampling Rahsaan Roland Kirk's cover of Marvin Gaye's classic "What's Going On."

You know, I don't get it. This comment section is always the same. Every time a young/new producer comes through everyone complains about how they use 1-2 bar loops but when it's an OG from the boom bap era that does the same thing that shit is gold. Seriously makes no sense.

Don't even take it there fam. Young/New niggas just need to make a dope ass beat when they get on here. It's rhythm roulette, so it's hit or miss. This was a miss.
@ismellpedo
@ismellpedo 7 жыл бұрын
I never said anything about this rhythm roulette specifically. Was this beat special? No, not really. Was it a quick, throwaway beat? Yeah. But I wasn't commenting on the beat in terms of quality. I was just saying that there's a certain amount of hypocrisy that's consistent in these comments. OGs loop a sample and throw the classic boom bap drums and it turns into "this is real hip hop". Meanwhile younger beat makers/producers loop it with some "trap" drums over it and it's "garbage". Just look at half of the comments on here. Also just because drums aren't boom bap doesn't make them trap.

Trap is much easier to make them boombap it's usually failed boombap producers who end up making trap cause they couldn't get the drums right ect so they move to trap where the drums don't take much processing ....as making authentic sounding boombap ain't easy ....

where people are mistaken is when they start thinking that just because something is simple, it's not dope. nowadays, the top producers make a lot of simple beats(although they have the ability to make something more complicated), because the people vibe w that shit. 100% of y'all mfs talking shit about this solid ass beat never had hits or placements and will NEVER have them because you don't understand that it's not about exhibiting pure skill everytime you make a beat. it's about going w what you feel at the moment. and if it's dope, it's dope. hating ass mfs😹💯

It's dope! Most of us if we heard that sample would have thought there is way too much going on and skipped it. The swing of the drums is perfect. And these beats are made to be simple to leave room for the vocals and the vocals always get crazy effects with distortion and reverb so it fills in as another instrument basically.

People complaining because its a simple beat yet fail to realize that simplicity is key . A lot of these tracks are simple for a reason , the artist wants as much open room for his vocals to breath over the mix . A lot of beats that have all these sounds on them make it hard for a rapper to be creative with his flow and delivery .
@akirahryuzaki
@akirahryuzaki 6 жыл бұрын
Thats not why people are complaining in my opinion. People are complaining because this beat was probably done in 10 minutes with no effort. If you have been producing instrumentals (in any genre) for a while I feel like you should understand. The guy put a filter on a sample. Looped it and then put some drums on it ... which would have been cool if he didn't brag about not using a Midi controller when most of the trap producers (including metro & southside) do that. and he bragged about using Logic?? "who does that" ...It was just honestly goofy to me. No hate to the guy but wtf man.
