You are right in that Amdos pronounce certain characters like "Na" and "Dha", but not as much as the Ladakhis do. One explanation is that more you listen to Amdo songs and conversations, more you understand them. I have been listening to Amdo songs for many years and have Amdo friends and family members actually. Therefore, that is why I can understand him better.

They are not similar in that respect. The Gesar epic is written in a unique literary form of Tibetan and to understand it, your Tibetan language skill has to be of a certain standard (don't mean to offend here) and you have to know the Gesar epic (names of places and characters and the stories) quite well to make sense of it.

arent the amdo and ngari/ladakh dialects really similar cos they pronounce all the letters in words? i speak lhasa dialect and to be honest i dont understand a word

no offense taken i kno my tibetan skills are far from formal.. but some words that i read he pronounces them like in amdo dialect, with lots of (for me) silent letters that he pronounces
