Love the incorporation of an additional outdoor space in little London. Local authorities should take note - this could be a solution to places that can't have gardens due to space - or just being able to make larger living spaces because the garden can now be on the roof! More houses like this please!

How beautifully the scoop in the wooden fence mirrors the window in the front door & complements the arched entrance.

Yes, lovely touches and shows the amount of thoughtfulnessimmersed in this project. The front door is beautiful - a little 'Hobbity'. And I love the illuminated house number globe - rather like an old police light

Beyond words. What strikes is that a complete new, entirely modern building...can fit like a glove and feel like a very old snug family home. Like an impossible dream come true. The designing, financial and planningcommission procedure would be really interesting to hear about. As well as the practical side of course ( thickness, layers, width of brick and insulation walls, weight, waterproofing and nature of roof structure, etc.) The brilliant thing about this channel is the sharing, the showing of feasible phantasies and enticing enthusiasm. Bravo.

Exceptional. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 What’s so appealing about this project is the highly textural detailing - that has come about as the result of the wonderful craft skills, love & dedication required to deliver it. It really helps to make the house a home. The design part and the build part clearly shared the same ethos and the end result is so much the better for it. What a lovely place to spend the rest of your life.☺️❤️

OK, so I've watched all six videos. Of the six houses shortlisted, two were designed by the architect for the architect. Given the age of the designers of the Peckham House I suspect that they had family help to carry out the work. Another two houses were commissioned by wealthy families using their kids as the designers - a total unrealistic example of how house design works in reality (for them there were no commercial pressures, no time pressures). The Hall seems to be a genuine commercial relationship between architect and client but given the length of the construction programme - 5 years - and the size of the house / extent of the work I would estimate it cost well over £5m. So that just leaves the Farmworker's House which appears to be a normal client / Architect appointment and with a budget that doesn't run into the many millions. So it should win.
@subspaceanomaly17 күн бұрын
I'd be astonished if the house in this video cost £5m. Bricks aren't that expensive, with some savvy and youtube DIY vids you could build this house with a couple of people, so the cost becomes materials and time. If it was your own house or an investment/showcase for your own architecture practice I'm sure there are myriad ways to make savings. That's not to say it's realistic for most people to have that time or inclination. In London the land the house is on is probably the main cost I would imagine.
@hartleyjr16 күн бұрын
@subspaceanomaly I didn't say this house. I said The Hall - another of the six houses that were shortlisted in the HOTY 2024.

Much as I love interesting architecture. I can't help thinking about how even basic home ownership is becoming an unreachable dream in so many affluent western countries. I love this house. it's stunning. I’m always intrigued by how properties like this manage to secure planning approval for a terrace on top, as these are often sensitive in planning terms. In this case, it’s a fantastic addition. The massing is greater than that of the neighbouring properties, and the flat roof means the eaves are higher. While I appreciate the design, I can’t help but feel that planning decisions on such matters can sometimes seem inconsistent
