You mean the frilling on the edge where the cast on comb stretches your knitting? There are a few ways, my preference is to use the eWrap cast on which seems to minimize it. You can also use waste yarn to cast on so the waste yarn gets stretched out instead of your project. Then there's "The Broken Toe" cast on and I have seen another method where you lay ravel cord in the zig-zag between the beds and later use it to draw in the edge of the knitting.
