Tragic, but a great message to teach the world at large. Some kids need you to be more of a disciplinary father instead of a friend, especially earlier in life, because once you lose them to something like addiction it’s next to impossible to get them back

I wish nothing but the best for Ric Flair and his family. I lost my cousin to an overdose and the pain it has caused has been immense, I hope they can heal and get through this. No words are enough to bring back the pain from a loss like this, but I am sending my condolences and love.

Most circumstantial interview yet, UNC. You showed you could touch REAL LIFE subjects with grace, empathy and humility. Not just from the scope of an athlete. Well done brotha.

Ric Flair is such a complex person. I’m glad I got to see this side of him, and hope he doesn’t blame himself. He did all that he could. Great interview.

Shannon has become a great interviewer man…. Notice, when Ric Flair was overcome with emotion about feeling like he let his son down, Shannon brings up Ric’s health and then his grand children to try and make him feel like he still has the ability to be in the lives of his grand children, and it made him stop sulking a bit. Great interview man, I’m not even a wrestling fan

No one is talking about how Shannon HANDLED this emotional moment for Ric. He didnt try to be as sympathetic as possible. He doesnt say "im sorry for your loss" and doesnt lower himself to try to be there for Ric. What he does is he continues to ask him questions. He keeps interviewing him trying to get his thoughts. And after the fact, they shift to Rics grandkid and they manage to laugh about it. See a lot of times, speaking on someones level and letting them maintain that dignity it better than lowering yourself for them. Shannon handled this very well. Shannon respected Rics feelings enough to not feel the need to cater to them so much. Ric probably would have regretted being vulnerable here if Shannon didnt ignore that vulnerability.

This is very good advice, as a person who overthinks everything and tries to see the deeper meaning or affect of things it is something that should be considered.

We just lost my brother this year to substance abuse. My ❤️ hurts for him because that pain is indescribable. Watching my parents hurt hits differently. Trying to get them help and be there most def takes a toll on the family & when they pass it hurts even more because you feel like you didn't do enough to try to help save them.

As a father of a son who is an addict it tears me up to see him blame himself because there is no perfect solution the lines between tough love and enabling are paper thin and BOTH ways can be equally helpful amd hurtful to all my parents with children struggling it's hard to say but we can't let their addictions bring us down as well if helping them or not helping is hurting you then no one recovers its just more victims being made
@SRT_DRE Жыл бұрын
He blames himself because he didn’t listen to the doctors when they told him to kick his son to the curb. He couldn’t. He still supported him financially. Even got him some gigs at $1500 a pop that ultimately funded his final days. That’s why Ric is crying. He didn’t do absolutely everything.

Man this is how you are suppose to interview people, you let him talk and didn’t force it out of him and then you switched topics so that he can smile right afterwards. Thank you Unc!

I’m the biggest Ric Flair fan you’ll ever meet. I’ve heard him tell the story probably five times and it never gets any easier to listen to. It’s especially tragic because it’s a classic addict story where dad knows that all the family love and rehab in the world couldn’t save his son, but he’ll forever wonder what he could’ve done differently especially on that fateful day. If you’ve never met someone who’s gone through this exact situation, consider yourself lucky.

Sorry to hear what happened to Ric Flair's son, but this reminds me of DMX and what happened to him. It's only so much anyone can do when someone is fighting demons like this, the person has to fight for themselves just as hard as you are for them.
@billj4525 Жыл бұрын
Very true. Ric putting his son in a rehabs and supporting him at all times is all he could do, the rest Reid had to do since it's on him to get clean. Ric did the right thing though, never give up on the addict. So much of the time sending the addict to the street just makes it worse. A lot of them just die on the street faster. In rare instances someone will get clean because they can't live like that, but most of the time you want to support and stick by the addict like Ric did to his son.

Man I struggled with addiction throughout my life. Went to prison and then rehab while my daughter was 14 and basically lost contact with her due to my addiction and her not wanting to be involved. It broke me. I have been clean ever since rehab, now going over 10 years and have built my relationship back with my daughter, although it’s not what it was, it’s something. 90% or more of the guys I was in rehab with, have died or gone to prison. All good people that were struggling. I’m so thankful to have made it trough. I hope anyone out there who is struggling, finds what it is that will pull them out. Life is beautiful with clarity and sobriety.

Man this 10 min clip got you right in the heart !! As much as Ric Flair was a character that became who was as a person. You can see through the character and inside the heart of the human being. The idea of a parent losing its child really is gut wrenching and I commend Ric for baring it all. Excellent interview.
