Arona is definately underated.... he's fought the best..... has notable wins against the likes of Sakuraba, Mezger, Ninja, Henderson..... yet, he is still not as feard or respected as he should be. He is just not a striker, so he is not a fan favorite to the general public. Some people consider his fights boring and typical,but those opinions are from people that are not into MMA as they are streetfighting. To them, if they dont see a KO, the fight was not worth watching.

he had really good fights against wanderlei silva but idk y he is not in the UFC they should sign him up i think if he got in the game with all those ppl he would be a big threat and all u hardcore mma fans kno it to im not sayin he the best but he still could be a threat in the lightheavy weight division. but my favorite fighters are chuck liddell anderson silva, fedor, arlovski,GSP,bj penn,vitor belfort, thiago alves, and i have alot more to name but i think he a threat in teh lhw division....

Well i think it would be obvious he is a descent striker by his size... Arona is a beast. On your other point, when he beat Silva by decision in 2005 it wasnt a title match, it was a middleweight tournament..... myself, i dont think anyones belt should be on the line in any type of tournament.... especially in Japan. Different training strategy altogether when youre training to fight more than 1 person in 1 night or over multiple events during minimal rest periods.

Any way you cut it Arona was SERIOUSLY close to finishing Fedor on several occasions in that fight. I'd love to see a rematch, I like Arona's chances based off the first fight.

tturbo I agree with you on alot; but honestly Shogun's fight vs Overeem although shorter in duration was more physically demanding and dangerous than Arona's decision win vs Wand. As for Arona being robbed vs Wand in the 2nd fight; I also disagree. Wand came through in that fight, landing the more decisive strikes and even escaping back to his feet and not waiting for a restart. I've been critical of Arona; he's a BJJ black belt, that seldom sub's opponents. He's strong but lacks flexibility

I was referring to the the fight as well. There wasn't domination. Just his lay and pray style. No real heavy hits, lay and pray. You can say yes he was controlling Rampage, but just until the scoop and drop.

true there was a clash of heads, but it was purely accidental(don't think Rampage cheated) just look at the positioning and the speed at which he was slammed. I know the moment you refer to when he hurt Rampage but I wouldn't say he was close to being KO'd. Regardless it was 1 powerfull slam.

I disagree about "harder fight", Shogun's was much more difficult & dangerous. You bring an interesting point about Shogun vs Wand; obviously Wand was champ, and there may have been some preferential treatment in order not to pit 2 team-mates against eachother. IMO Wand porposely lacked intensity vs Arona ; the result was obvious, he lost a decision and the torch was passed to his young team-mate Shogun.

no he what he meant is ricardo scored 5 td's attempted 6 subs mounted, side controlled and back controlled fedya for 80% of 2 rounds. while fedya fought off subs almost getting choked out, was controlled and lost every scramble... now why there was an overtime round... only god knows...

Dominated? No, Arona wasn't dominating. He was fighting in his normal conservative fighting style. 2 knock outs to his resume of 18 fights and the majority decision. I wouldn't say dominate.

They really dont care who is the champ or who isnt. They want the fighters that generate dollars to fight as often as they can whether they are champions or not.... years ago in the rings org. fedor won a bullshit dec. but everyone else knows who really won that fight.... watch the fight count the takedowns, submission attempts, controlling positions and scrambles won. then take stop watch and time how long fedya is held down... then honestly tell me if there needed to be a 3rd overtime round.
