Great tutorial, with most important aspects covered! In addition, a few tips that could be useful for beginners: Sliding parallel can be easier when front foot in slide is put a bit forward before going in. This way the front foot will be already closer to where it should be when sliding. Then both feet only need to be turned sideways. No need for front foot to travel around back foot while making balancing and direction matching harder. Also be sure to go in with the upper body first ( turn sideways). No need for sudden movement here which at first can put the body off balance. Just prepare the front foot and upper body, to the closest pose possible, then execute the rest. Good thing that Ricardo Lino mentioned not to jump into the slide and be weightless. Would add that it can be a small weight shift up and down, to allow extension of legs and to "sit" on the hip. Just barely enough to extend the legs without moving any body parts/weights to the sides. But for sure not a jump. One more helpful exercise could be getting into sliding pose without any speed and then getting back to the riding pose back. It will be hard to stay in that leaned/angled pose and to keep it as long as possible. It will last for a second at most. But it's a good exercise to coordinate the upper body correctly and place/stop feet exactly where they should be.

Good points although I've seen some people who are literally jump into the parallel slide. But that's of course not the technique to start with.

Sliding from a slalom weave is not something I had considered! I executed a perfect slide a couple weeks ago but even right after I did it I wasn't sure what I had done to set myself up. Lol 😆 Now I think this is how I did it since I do like to weave in order to kill speed when I have the space.

Hey Ricardo, thanks for putting this together. I think the little hip twist is the best piece of advice. Be Elvis on skates and get the twist down. That's the magic. Speaking of magic...what do you think of the 'magic-slide'? Where you're sliding your front foot like a parallel slide and the trailing foot is kind of dragging...both feet on the inside edge. Not sure if I've seen you do that one. But I see some guys doing it a lot. Guys like Greg Mirzoyan. Talk to you later and keep rolling.

This drift-type parallel sliding looks so graceful. First I saw it on videos of downhill rollers. E.g. the video "Downhill Roller" (on youtube channel) is very impressive. Here the drift by parallel sliding is a main technique of rollers to slow down, and they do it so effortlessly and naturally that is seems this technique is organic by nature for downhill skating. Thank you much, Ricardo, for good tutorial.

I know this is a stupid question. Parallel slide and hockey stop is it the same, right?
@Snifffski3 жыл бұрын
My understanding of it is it's the same thing, except that with the hockey stop the aim is to stop as quickly as possible so as to change direction in a game of hockey, while the aim of the parallel slide is to maintain the slide. But it's basically the same.

What do you think, witch frame would be better for Urban skating: Endless or Wizard ? (I started to learn some wizard moves and it's super fun)
@RicardoLino4 жыл бұрын
Hey hey man, I wouldn’t say one is better than other. They are different. For different type of boots The wizards with seba SX OR CJS are amazing. The endless fit a wider boot range in terms of good Experience. Also the endless can be 4 wheels slightlyrockered or 3 wheels flat which is cool. But again I would NOT say one is better than 0ther. BOTH EXCELENT

Hi Ricardo, Can you do this on aggressive skates?
@foolakadugie4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but it can be harder. with shorter frames and smaller wheels, there is a greater chance of your frames getting in the way (especially with thick frames). You can also end up with the boot touching the ground, which can actually help you slide if you intentionally do it and flex your ankle, but it can also cause the skates to slide out from under you if you aren't planning on it. Siding on your boot/soul-plate and frames is called a Cess Slide. This video is more about sliding on your wheels rather than on your soul-plate/boot/frames though. An anti-rocker setup would not be good for this. Go with a flat setup or a rockered setup with something like the Oysi (pronounced "Wish") frame. I have been having fun with slides on my Oysi frames (large size). They support up to 72mm on the outside and I have 60mm on the inside for a slight rocker. The rocker makes it so that you only have 2 points of contact during a slide for less friction and also helps with turning into the slide. The 72mm wheels gives you more room without your skate frame or boot hitting the ground and sliding out from under you. Wheels can also play a big role. Some aggressive wheels are so hard that they do slide but don't give you much control. Softer wheels might be a bit harder to get into a slide, but will give you more control.
@james-ted-garland4 жыл бұрын
@@foolakadugie thanks! I'm hoping to get some new skates with Oysi frames. I miss skating flat and looking forward to giving these a try
