This really shows how direct air is so much more energy efficient. I wish Riccar had made more of a direct air flow path. I have a Kirby, Sanitaire, and Kenmore canister, but was wanting to add a Riccar to my collection, because that rug agitation is fun to watch. But shucks, they waste it not pairing it with awesome airflow. Still fun to watch, thank you!

Oh definitely I think one of the most efficient would be the 3.5 amp Oreck 21 style machines their flow is in the upper 80s if i recall. Yeah I like the tandems and how they perform but having done all this testing I can say with certainty that a two motor clean air setup with the right air path is capable of matching or exceeding the performance of a tandem.

I think the issue is the main suction motor isn't moving at least or more air than the direct air motor. It really will choke down the performance with a weaker motor after a stronger one, as it cannot move more air to begin with. However, I have found mine works very well.

That may be. I have found that by removing the bag door that airflow at the nozzle increases. Of course you do lose some cling due to the lower suction.

I like the idea of the tandem air design (great tool suction of a clean air and great carpet cleaning performance for direct air), but I do feel like the feature is quite a gimmick simply because of those performance numbers that it pulls. Besides, I've seen direct air only vacuums perform way better.

as well as bypass machines it's a neat concept but just not all that practical

I do like these machines, but not the price/performance ratio. A cheap Chinese Hoover Tempo Widepath has more nozzle airflow and suction. 🙁

I'd like to see you get your hands on one someday. It would be interesting to see how they do in the pickup tests. But yes they could certainly perform better and they could do so in a less complicated way

Do you prefer these models over the miele u1 s7 or not?

Overall I do. The miele has some advantages to it like better bare floor cleaning, quieter, a more comfortable hose handle, better filtration, and debris not passing through an impeller. But the Riccar is definitely a stronger performer on carpet due to it's stronger airflow and agitation. It's supplies and parts are generally cheaper too. It also doesn't feel quite as heavy in the hand.

So I'm currently using a Dyson Animal Ball 2 and love it... but do hate some things about it. Was thinking about picking up the Tandem Air Premium Pet dishing out $1700. If you don't feel these are the "be all end all" then what would you suggest in terms of the BEST upright vacuum?

Are they really that much now? Back when i worked at a vacuum shop there were two 40 models the base model was 999 at map the premium was....I think 1249 granted that was back in like 2018 I think. I don't think they're the be all end all. I think they provide excellent carpet cleaning performance and a good amount of premium features to them. As far as pure carpet cleaning power machines like Kirby and the bag on the back style sanitaires are my choices. They though lack convenience features and have a bit of a learning curve so they're not for everyone.

You can find refurbished Riccars for a few hundred dollars. They're meant to last 20+ years, so they will still outlive and outperform your Dyson. And the OP is correct about Kirbys and commercial Sanitaires, I own both. The Sanitaire uprights (mine is an upright Tradition with an allergen bag, not shake out bag). It is just an upright, no hose, so to clean sofas and stairs, someone would need a separate canister vacuum. It does carpets extremely well though and is meant to last decades. Very easy maintenance and repairs that can be done at home.

At full price nah,. If you came across a cheap enough used unit maybe, they at very least have a uniqueness factor to them.
