my mistake on the gym size. I t was the size of a small 2 bedroom house 50' x 120'
@jimkay59845 жыл бұрын
ric drasin. That's a huge 2 bedroom! I'd agree on the 50 ft. wide part though. That kind of gym only exists once.

I have been bodybuilding off and on since 1976. I remember reading all about this in the muscle mags of the day. Ric, thanks so much for sharing these wonderful stories, I can see how much this meant to you. I am an auto racer, and I am the same way about the old days of motorsports.

I love these stories. I’m quite new to bodybuilding and working out as I only started properly about 6 months ago (making progress!) and I’ve come to learn so much about the community and all the guys. It’s like stepping into a whole new world. Anyway, this is great content and I’m envious of your life back in the golden era 👍

Love these reminiscences. Makes me think of faded watercolor footage and photos of Venice Beach and LA in the Golden Era.

Great stories Ric. Whenever I drive by the local Gold's Gym in my area I think of your stories about Joe Gold and note that your iconic logo isn't on the building. I also wonder if anyone who works out there even knows who Joe was or the history of the gym.

The question about the old Venice days is if the myth of the 'order a bodybuilder' or 'bodybuilder black book', is a true story. A lot of those guys didn't work. So to make money, a lot of them would do 'adult' photoshoots and essentially work as escorts to/for the schmoes. I know that it went on. But we have all also heard about a book that apparently existed, where a schcmoe could walk into the gym and ask for a book that contained a picture and write up of all of the bodybuilders who were willing to do that kind of work for some 'easy' money.

Why don't commercial gyms like chalk? Chalk makes the lifts a little safer. I can see how it might be a problem of you get it all over the place.
