There is a magnet that holds the pot and heating element together, but you need enough weight and for the pot to not get too hot. That's how it works for rice: when the water evaporates, the pot and magnet get hotter and the magnet weakens, so it flips to warm to not burn the rice. Clamping the button down is a nice workaround if you're going to pay close attention, but it's not built to stay well above 100C for very long

Hi there, i have an off grid lifestyle so have tried all the different ways of cooking. Love my Kmart rice cooker, youtube has some gr8 recipes to follow. I have tried heaps. My fav is simply special fried rice for one: 1/2 cup rice ( let soak for 30 mins then rinse ) Place in bottom of rice cooker. Then in a clock formation around edge place the following: aprox 1/2 cup amounts - frozen peas - fine chopped carrot - chopped spring onion - fresh or canned corn - diced red / green capsicum - diced ham , torizo, or some canned tuna / pink salmon - soy sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce - 1 cup chicken stock / broth - get a tomato remove core and cut skin on top , place tomato in middle of all the veg. Set cooking, when it stops / pops, remove skin on tomato and chop up. - in a mug beat 1 large or 2 small eggs and pour over all the cooked rice and veg mix. Place lid back on and wait 5 mins. Chop egg into rice/ veg mix and stir thru. Serve and enjoy.....yummy You can play with ingredients to suit yourself.... Takes about 30 mins to cook and ready to eat. Cheers Rick PS - to add i place a folded up tea towel over steam hole in lid to catch the steam so you dont get moisture over everything..... just a little tip..😁👍

Thanks for the video! I, took love my rice cooker! I always thought it was a one-hit wonder (I like multitaskers) but then I discovered rice cooker recipes. Game changer! I regularly make rice pilaf by adding tomatoes, chopped onions, herbs and dry veggie soup stock (Vegeta) in with the rice and water. When it's cooked, I add some feta cheese, stir, and have a fancy side dish for dinner. I've also made rice with chicken (I've used tofu instead, too), chopped veggies (chard, broccoli, carrots, etc), soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, and a dash of sugar. (I added the sauce components to the rice and water and put the protein and veggies on top, not stirred in.) It is a really quick, hands-off lunch that's delicious and filling. We aren't full-time travelers (right now) but if we go back on the road next June, the rice cooker is coming with me. :-)

I believe that your cooker kept going to warm because of temperature. My understanding is that the temperature at the bottom of the cooker determines the cook mode and since your cake is dense, it was probably holding more heat than grains would. It would cook through just fine on warm it would just take a little longer. First time viewer and enjoyed to video :)

The weight needs to be in the rice cooker. When it has water and rice the weight scale in the machine tells it let’s cook as the water evaporates the rice becomes lighter and it knows to switch to stay warm so you need to put a little bit of weight somehow in the middle of the cake mix to keep it on cock. Hope this helps ✌️❤️.

I didn't read many comments so may ben repeating here. The Anko only goes for about 12 minutes and then switches to keep warm mode, it is made to cook rice, thats it. When you want to cook longer do this - when it switches to keep warm mode - turn it off at the wall or unplug. turn back on and turn the switch to Cook again. You can keep repeating until your food is cooked. Good luck and enjoy :)
@eucalyptdesignsАй бұрын
Ahhhh I see, there has been various reasons provided but this makes sense, thank you!!🤗
@helenahon690Ай бұрын
When the rice cooker reaches a certain temperature it will turn to keep warm, it has nothing to do with weight, you need to let it cool down a bit to set it to cook mode again. The rice cooker is very versatile, you can make a grill cheese sandwich in it. But put a towel under the lid to catch the condensation so it doesn’t get soggy. You can pan fry things in it too, just remember to use the towel trick to catch the condensation so it won’t splatter. If you like potstickers, you can add a bit of oil to the inner pot, add the frozen dumplings along with about 1/4 cup of water and press cook. Leave it until it turns to warm mode and you’ve got crispy dumplings to eat.

Great video. I travel in a tiny camper and also babysit my battery. I use a HotLogic mini as a slow cooker - 45 watts. It is wonderful. For the rice cooker, a couple of hacks to mimic the weight of water (which is why it shuts off) is to place a plate on the top with a paper towel to absorb condensation . Also you can wedge something in the switch to keep it on cook mode.

Rice cooker is pretty low power draw but definitely a pain cutting off like that. A small electric skillet from Amazon draws about 1400-1500 watts but might be quicker 🤔
@eucalyptdesigns2 ай бұрын
Oh wow I didn't know such a thing existed! Unfortunately I can only draw up to 1000W at a time, but I'm gonig to research this to see if I can find one that draws less power 🙏😃

Amazon sells SMALL rice cookers that have significantly less draw than the one you bought off the shelf. They also hold far less food, but that's a good thing when you live in a vehicle by yourself. Your rice cooker isn't staying in cook mode because, apparently, you don't have LifePo batteries that are designed to work with modern electronics and not to cycle the way other batteries do. (This is an assumption based on what I know about batteries and since I've never watched one of you videos before, I don't know the details of your system.) If you do have a LifePo battery, then my next guess would be that you don't have enough power (see my first comment for that). I don't know where you got that "not enough weight" idea from, but I cannot begin to fathom why that would have an impact on whether or not a kitchen appliance actually works correctly or not. I've never seen any kitchen appliance that won't work when it's completely empty, even if there's no reason to run it that way. Anyhow, I hope that helps you fix the problem. I was really hesitant about rice cookers until I started seeing what people were doing with them, but now it's on my Amazon list to add to my own rig. Good to know about baking as well! That I didn't know and it's always good to know different ways to bake. 🙂 The pumpkin risotto looked like it would be yummy as well. As for gluten-free baking, it's really not that hard to make your own mixes and then you can control all of the ingredients yourself and not use pre-packaged food that clearly states just how genetically modified it is on the box (about as close as they'll get to a warning label). I highly recommend giving it a shot. I"m sure you will be pleasantly surprised and you will save money as well. If you find a recipe for g-f flour and you don't like it, simply play around with the ingredients until you find one you do like. There are many grains that are less commonly used that will easily fill the void of wheat in baked goods. Cheers!

Awesome, you found the rice cooker useful in the van, definitely going to use one when I decide to bite the bullet. Been inspired by your videos for a while and want to do the something similar as an artist on the go rather than being anchored at my home studio, I noticed you were standing up while working on your artwork in the commuter (that's right yea?). If you don't mind me asking what's your height? and are you happy and comfy enough or should I be looking at high roof van?

Oh I'm so glad the videos are being helpful to you! I say we create an artist van train around Australia 😁 I am 171cm I think, taking out the headlining over the sink area has been so damn good, but I am starting to think more long term now and looking at going higher. I do find myself hunching over a lot, I would definately consider going higher if you plan on working inside the van ☺

I've got that rice cooker but never knew it did more than rice... thankyou. I may have to take it in my van. Random unrelated to the video question... how wide is your van? I currently have a single bed down one side and 'kitchen' area on the other side the sliding door is on. I'd prefer my bed across the back like yours but I'd have to lay diagonally a bit as my van is 150cm across internally. I am a side sleeper though. Do you lay diagonally?
@eucalyptdesigns2 ай бұрын
I'm so glad this video has given you some inspiration for meal ideas☺ So as the Hiace curves on the sides as it goes higher it does depend at what height you place your bed. Mine is 77cm high and the length is 171cm, which is my exact height so my feet do touch the end if I stretch out, but I'm a curled up side sleeper so it doesnt worry me too much. I originally had it length ways down the van but as you say it does give you a lot more room with it the way I have it now. Hope this helps!🤗
@Sage12122 ай бұрын
@@eucalyptdesigns great! thankyou for those tips. I have a Toyota townace so it's a fair bit smaller than a hiace. I too am looking for more floor space but I think the rear bed idea needs more thought for me.

Thanks so much, from others feedback it sounds like a rice cooker needs water in it to cook, it turns off when the water is gone because that is normally when the rice is cooked. So I think I need one with more settings to do cakes, thinking I might upgrade because I absolutely love using it! ☺

Thank you for your interest, I have actually only just started playing with watercolours recently, I typically use more pencils, felt tip pens and copics. I love the watercolours for painting though, it's a lot less messy in the van the acrylics or oils haha. I had been using the copywrite free music that came with my editing software when I started, but it was limited and terrible lol, I recentlly started using Artlist, I think it was about $200-$300 for the year and there's a BIG selection of copywrite free music to choose from 🤗

Just an opinion, get a regular stove top pressure cooker, takes less space. Perfect white or brown rice, ribs, chicken, stews, I can go on and on. Super easy, you don’t have to worry about electricity, instant pot is nothing more than a glorified pressure cooker. My goodness seems everything needs to be electric and pre-set these days. I absolutely love your art, you’re gifted and thanks for sharing.

Hello, I was wondering, if I can share with you the most important thing. God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. Then He was put into a tomb for 3 days, after that Abba Father raised Jesus to life.He appeared to people, and went back to heaven. We all must sincerely receive Jesus into our life to be God's child. See John 1:12 for this please. Will you today genuinely by faith receive Jesus into your life for salvation?
