Hi Thomas, thanks for your messages. I love doing these 'daily vlog' style episodes but it's rare because it's difficult to film and work at the same time. I like taking angles and editing them together which means I've got to move the camera around and adjust its settings, etc. So until I get help with that...I've got to approach the videos as individual topics and allow the series of episodes to carry a longer arch that demonstrates the workload. Great suggestion and I appreciate the insight! -Matthew

Great video! How many rice crops can you plant a year? I was stationed in Korea and have been living in Thailand for 10 years. It's interesting to see the various ways rice farmers from different countries farm rice. It's kind of funny how the Thai Jasmine rice I used to get in California is better than the Jasmine rice I get in Thailand. They export the high grade rice to other countries.

I was watching Asian foodies channels and got curious as to exactly how rice is farmed. They have rice paddy's along the MS River which I drove by once. So I knew you flooded the rice fields. But I had no clue as to how you brought that stuff from the water to the market. Nice channel.

We still don't have water on our rice in Arkansas, and it's almost 2 weeks after y'all started. Y'all do your irrigation completely different than us, I guess it's our abundance of ground water here.
@Ricefarmingtv
@Ricefarmingtv 7 жыл бұрын
Howdy Ridge Dawg! I'm glad you contacted me because I'm very interested in the difference between how rice is grown in California and Arkansas. How do you normally irrigate your rice? Surface water? Ditch pumps or deep well pumps? Aren't you boys all flooded out down there (as of a week ago)? I wish you all the best during the planting season. Please keep in touch! -Matthew
@Ridg.e
@Ridg.e 7 жыл бұрын
Most of our irrigation is from deep well pumps, a few farmers that are close to Rivers and sloughs use them for water. Yeah we were flooded there is still some roads and fields under water but all of our land is dry. We started pulling levees today an hopefully start putting water on them this week. Another interesting thing I saw is that y'all fly on your seed, is that what the majority of farmers do in your area because around here we don't do that very often.

What kind of fertilizer are you applying? Do you hire a contractor to do the job and how is the applicator shown in the video working? Does it incorporates fertilizer into the ground ? Thank you and nice video !
@Ricefarmingtv
@Ricefarmingtv 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Spoutnik! Thanks for the great questions. We apply aqua ammonia (nitrogen fertilizer) with one ground rig (tractor with small chisel shanks that inject the fertilizer 3" deep. Then we roll on 8-10-8 with a rig that you can see at the 2:42 minute mark of this video. So a whole lot of nitrogen with some starter phosphorus and potassium. Please let me know if that clears it up. And please keep in touch! -Matthew

Rice Farming TV Thanks for your answer! I think it would be interesting to show us the equipment you're using to incorporate fertilizer... if you have some time to do so of course..! Do you put anymore fertilizer on the rice once you've flooded the field? Thanks for your time, keep up the great work and "bon courage" for the planting season!

Sorry to be that new guy that just found your channel and ask a different question on every video; but I have got to know whats with your t shirt you were wearing when you were eating breakfast? This is why I gotta know about this shirt. Thank you for the great videos.

Hey Sam, I lived in Prague, The Czech Republic for 6 years. That shirt in the episode is of the local soccer team. The north region of the country is called Bohemia and the southern region of the country is called Moravia. What is your lineage of Bohemian? That's super interesting! -M.

Rice Farming TV It starts with my grandpa my dads dad. He was full blooded bohemian he was born on the farm I live on and my family still farms. His dad was born in America about 65 miles south of here and moved and bought our farm on 1899. His dad was born in the home country near Prague I am not sure where they lived there, but they moved to America in 1875. Thanks for the great videos Matt.

All the physical labor of closing off the water sources and the digging the holes with shovels, wouldn't that type of work be better done by 15-25 year old men? Teach them how to do it and then send them to work and have them send you a photo of each job as proof of the work done. Is there enough profit for you to hire them and use your time to be with your family or managing the employees?

Jozef, great question but it's hard for me to answer that because I need to know where you want to plant this rice. What's the climate like now? What will it be like in 140 days? Let me know my man. Here in California, yes it's too late to plant. It would be very, very dangerous. -Matthew
