I liked Swift, Sanders, Scott and still like Gainwell, all of whom benefit(ed) from one of the best O lines in football, but Saquon is on a different level. He is a bona fide game changer. Giants could have afforded him but they didn't prioritize him. Simple as that.

@rohanshah7559 it doesn't help you win a title, and the shelf lives of rbs are short. Saqoun makes sense on the Eagles...takes them to the next level. Same with McCaffery on San Fran...they were both wasted on the teams that drafted them. If ur RB is the focal point your team is in trouble. Most of the great running backs of the last 20 years...haven't won a title. Because shitty teams take them and a running back can't be the defining feature of the offense.

I'm with Rich, there was no good reason to allow Barkley to walk. There was this narrative amongst the GM's to devalue the RB position which Schoen thought all GM's was onboard with. Problem is, Barkley isn't like all the other RB's on the Market, he's a difference maker in and out the locker room. And instead of arming the ailing QB with weapons, the plan was to let the ultimate weapon walk and draft a rookie WR to replace the production. The best friend of a struggling QB is a good RB, when I say good, teams stack the box for fear of being gashed for huge gains, which potentially opens up the passing lanes for said struggling QB. The Hard knocks take of Schoen quoted as saying, He didn't want to pay a 40M QB to hand off to a 12M RB, is the most idiotic comment to make as a GM. What? You think Jones should run the Ball himself since you're paying him 40M? I don't get that analogy. Schoen is a financial analyst parading around as a GM, he cannot properly assess NFL talent. Great with numbers, shouldn't be the last voice on talent though.

Honestly, no.. the Giants don’t and shouldn’t regret letting Saquon go. Saquon was a crutch and a tether for the Giants while he was there. Their qb hasn’t really developed because they’ve never had a receiver worth noting and best weapon (really only weapon) was a Rb so the game was all about get the ball to your best player do it was runs and dump offs. Add to that Saquon has the most drops since he been in the league and can’t be counted on in crunch time and you have a recipe for losing games. Now DJ finally has a legitimate weapon to throw to and has no crutch anymore and must be the focal point of the offense and guess what we’re finally seeing some growth. It’s early so we will see how it goes from here but for really the first time in his tenure with the Giants fans see some real reason for optimism that he can actually develop. Once he proves he can lead the offense.. then you go get that RB to pair with him and take some pressure off but the Giants NEED to know if DJ can truly lead the team alone and they need to know this year before the remaining years of his contract kick in.

CHECK! get skinny and burst through a barely there hole? CHECK! always fall forward for that extra 2 yards? check! hit home runs by running away from fast 200lb DBs ? They built their team around jones and looked at Saquon as a luxury instead of building around Saquon. I get that you can’t really build around a running back bc of injury risk but if you can’t figure out a way to maximize your best player it’s an indictment on your organization’s strategy. If the giants prioritized the o line and ran their offense through the run with Saquon, jones would have a smaller role that would suit him better. Chargers this season will be an interesting look at that model

The Giants only issue is #8. His a perfect QB2 but absolutely NOT a QB1. That’s the issue. Put Andy Dalton at QB on the NYG and they win 9 games this year. Our Josh Allen or even Russell Wilson there and they do the same. Jones is just not a starting QB in this league. Not sure how much more evidence John Mara needs. The issue is not RB and this discussion is just stupid. Plus, let’s wait the entire year and see if Barkley misses his typical 5-7 games with injury before we come to a conclusion.

Barkley for all his talents was not the running back the Giants needed with the talent level at other positions, or lack thereof, particularly on the offensive line. Daniel Jones will never be an elite level QB, never, but the reality was the Giants needed a power running back, a Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, John Riggins, Jerome Bettis, who could run north-south, run over and through defenders, when the offensive line missed their assignment, and also had the speed to break0off long runs. Barkley is an east-west running back, who needs open filed to showcase his talents. He does not get those hard yards, is not the short yardard running back on those 3rd and 1, 4th and one, no he was the star running back who was often lifted on goal-line plays, became he is not a power runner. He is the running back who will be held of -3 yards on 10 carries, then break a run off for 50 yards and a TD. He is not going to continuously move the chains, not with the Giants offensive line. I hope he has a spectacular injury free career with the Eagles, he does appear to be a quality person and very gifted athlete, whose talents weren't a great fit for the talent challenged NY Giants at that time. Would I have rather kept Barkley and got rid of Daniel Jones, you bet your behind.

Here's the thing and I'm going to be as even keel and tempered as I can be because I am an Eagles fan. Now if this was the Cowboys we were talking about I would have nowhere near the objectivity lol listen I respect the g-men a little bit more here's the scuttlebutt.... A good running back is useless on a team that is horrible and doesn't have an o-line. No different than Christian McCaffrey. He went to the niners and made and already good team that much better. Same thing happened here. The Giants have other priorities. Them letting him walk and addressing other areas like the o line and other places they need to improve is good management. It's also good for Barkley because he doesn't have to spend years of his prime backpacking a team and not knowing what it's like to just contribute to winning. Again.... I've been an Eagles fan since Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid was there. I'm being as objective as I possibly can be right now. Giants made a solid choice. And Barkley made the choice correct for him. That's how you build a team. You get the offensive and defensive line good. You draft the right quarterback. See what he has in the first year and then get him a star receiver. Get a solid running back. They did what the Cowboys didn't have the courage to do. Because they should start over. But I'm happy they paid Dak Prescott all that money. 😊 Is the right way to go about it. Look at Washington right now. They've got a little something going.

The narrative is the giants let Barkley go…. They have to continue to push it. No one talks about the MULTIPLE TIMES THE GIANTS TRIED TO SIGN HIM! He turned all the offers down! They didn’t pick jones over him. He screwed us into signing jones. Had he signed the contract then we woulda been able to tag jones! Because he turned it down we had no choice. And stop with the best offensive player thing. He was so great for us that we constantly were picking in the top 10 when he was here besides the 22 season. Yea he’s good in Philly. It is what it is but they have to keep pushing the narrative to make the Giants look foolish. Smh

Of course they do, but he needed to get out of there. He was their best player, but he was wasting his best years getting nowhere fast.

Hmm, I wonder how that premium RB would do against the Cowboys with their last place running defense. Oh well, another loss closer to the number one pick!

This is nauseating at this point can we please stop talking about saqoun not signing with the giants. The giants needed as much as they could to sign more offensive line and get Brian burns. The giants offered him a contract way before they did anything with Daniel but he said no a wanted more money move on.

That’s such a poverty take by Sully. We aren’t good, so what’s the point of paying good players? Shouldn’t have paid Danny Pennies then if the foundation was in the dumps. Paying a QB 40 Mil usually signals you wanna win now.

So many salty Giants fans trying to agree with Schoen that we should not have signed an aging RB, but look at us now we are horrid in the running game and Sequon is flourishing. Joe Schoen screwed up and everyone on this board knows it but will not admit it. I made a comment yesterday that the Giants would not win against the cowboys without Saquon and I was right, yet a bunch of Giants fan attacked me when I was correct. Giants fans stop living in a dream world, we are currently 1-3 and will be 1-8 with 5 difficult games up next. And yet the owners will not fire Daboll or Schoen, because they want to give them another year......Sounds a lot like the second coming of Gettleman and Judge.....LOL!! We truly suck and have only improved our offensive line and one receiver.....Defense is pressure-less and only Laurence is creating something.....WE suck sadly!! And there goes another season lost!!🤪

Jones has to lead the Giants to a competitive NFC Championship game or the Super Bowl at minimum for the Giants to even consider retaining him beyond this season.
