Teams pretty much live and die by a qb. Only one Super Bowl appearance and no ring is not something you can put in the conversation. Hate to say it but that’s the truth. Especially when your team literally builds the entire offense around you

@@jonq8714 Not sure if I would go that far, but Steve Young was a very good player too. Only problem is he walked into a juggernaut team that was the 49ers, and for the first few years of his career, there wasn't even free-agency that we know today, so that juggernaut was going to stay a juggernaut unless people got hurt.

What Brees accomplished in New Orleans was incredible and he would have more Super Bowl wins except for some heartbreaker playoff loses. He not only lifted a downtrodden team, he helped revive and entire city. I saw him play in San Diego and I always thought he was accurate, but my God! He completed 75% of his passes one year. The Bolt who got away.

Yeah, Elway gets a lot of credit for carrying bad teams to the SB and he did finally win a ship and went back to back with a second. But his numbers were pretty bad when compared to his peers. Marino, Favre and Young all had better numbers than him.

@williamgullett5911
@williamgullett5911 Жыл бұрын
I will tell you how you could go wrong with Marino. As a 50 yr Dolphin fan I loved Marino. Then…with each passing season it same more and more obvious Marino was more concerned with his stats over winning. First, those Dolphins teams had a good enough defense to make the SB. People try to say it was horrible…it wasn’t. The Dolphins also failed in years in which all the power was in the NFC. Those AFC teams Miami couldn’t get by…while having Shula(who is also overrated) we’re getting beat by 40 points in the SB. Okay…the next part is when it was obvious Marino was just a stats guy. Jimmy Johnson, one of the best coaches ever IMO was hired by Miami. We were all excited. Johnson was going to turn them around…..until Marino refused to listen to Johnson. Johnson was trying to change the team to more of a run team….and Marino wouldn’t go along with it. Johnson put up with it for a couple seasons and then said screw it and went back to the Florida Keys where he lived. There is other stuff Marino pulled.

So lets at least list all the criteria that should be factored in, Each one is not going to weigh the same but even if its worth anything when having this discussion even the slightest advantage might be the diff. We have in no particular order. Wins, winning percentage, TDs thrown, QB rating, TD to interception ratio, completion percentage, rushing TDs, MVPs, playoff appearances, playoff wins, playoff percentage, SB appearances, Superbowl wins, Superbowl MVPs, pro bowl selections, 4th Q comebacks, winning seasons, yards thrown, interceptions thrown, yards per attempt, seasonal records set (if any) and finally the eye test in watching said QB. I am sure I missed a bunch but especially when you are getting to top 10s all-time and it is neck and neck everything has to be considered. It def is a fun debate to have.

John Elway is not even close. He rates as the 20th greatest quarterback to start a career after 1946. Drew Brees had to carry defenses for nearly all of his career. He is the 3rd greatest quarterback of all time according to the "Real GOAT" scoring system which is by far the most comprehensive ever created. The Mount Rushmore is actually Johnny Unitas, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees and Fran Tarkenton not in that order. And I can prove it!!

Peyton Manning would be considered the GOAT if Tom Brady didn't exist. 5 MVPs already, and retired with the most career passing yards, passing TDs, single season passing yards and TDs, and all kinds of other records. He was 2/4 in super bowls, but I believe, if not for Tom Brady and the 03 and 04 Patriots, Manning could have won 2 more, making him 4/6. Add 2 more rings to his resume, and Manning is the GOAT.
