In theory that makes sense, but what is "proving it"? Let's say they choose not to extend Lawrence. He leaves. Who takes over that is an improvement? Either they get super lucky in the draft (not likely) or find a discarded free agent from someone else's unwanted list? The other risk is Lawrence goes to a team that isn't a joke (because Jacksonville is a joke) and suddenly plays lights out because he's got a good coach & org around him.

Here is the thing: if you are a franchise and you look at your quarterback and go "he isn't worth the money" then your franchise doesn't have a quarterback. I don't mean the guy will leave in free agency, he will, and someone else will pay him; I mean that you don't have the guy to lead your franchise on your roster and you will need to go find that guy. You're gonna have to take a swing on another guy in the draft who may or may not work out. You will have to start trading pieces to get draft capital to move and get the guy you think can be the franchise guy or just get rid of the players on roster who are upset suddenly they aren't apart of a competitive organization trying to win anymore. What do you do if you have a coach too? LIke look at the dolphins for example do you think if they decided not to pay tua, and they were going to start trading away talent to get the cap low and to get draft picks for a rebuild do you think a coach like Mike Mcdaniel would want to stick around for that? Put supbar preformances up with a weak roster? in fact having that coach might impeede your ability to tank for a draft pick to get your quarterback. No its too messy to not pay the guys. Especially when another team will for sure pay a dude a fully gaurnteed contract to steal away the qb.

@Black4CookАй бұрын
Why is every one blaming Press Taylor? I am sick of it. Doug was calling plays the past 2 games. Doug is an offensive HC who game plans with the OC and they are unable to script plays at the beginning of the game which dont result in a 3 and out. Doug did fire all defensive coaches but decided to keep the offensive coaches (jax fans know that the defense was the reason the jags went 8-3 in the first place because the offense was bad then already) Do i think that Press Taylor is a good OC? No but he is not the reason the jaguars stay there with a terrible o-line, he is also not the reason the jags receivers dropping the most balls in the entire NFL, he also doesn't make the call to go for it on the own 30 yeard line on 4th down, and he also doesn't miss open receivers. You can blame the play calling but last year the jags offense was so bad that there was almost no other way than to call some crack toss and screen plays because that was the only thing which didn't result in a sack or a tackle for -2 yards loss.

karenhardie1132:. He has been that same way from high school through the NFL. He's not big in showing outward emotions but I can guarantee you he is smoldering inside. You can't make a guy be who he is not. I'll tell you a story about Trevor. My nephew and Trevor were classemates in middle and high school. My nephew played basketball with Trevor in middle school. While he was in middle school I kept hearing about this hotshot qb and that he would be big time in high school. I paid that no attention because the high school already had a qb in waiting and I said that maybe this kid (Trevor) would take over after he left. It didn't take that long. Trevor took over the starting position two or three games in of his freshman year. I thought he got the spot too soon but boy was I wrong. He took the team to the playoffs to face the mighty Buford Wolves. They didn't fare too well against Buford and Trevor got beat up pretty good in that game but he still stood in there and delivered the ball while being pummeled. That is the point that he won me over. This is when they started saying he might be the best qb in the state as a freshman. Anyway here is the story I was really getting at. A week or two after that game my nephew asked if I would take him to his freshman basketball game and I said I would. This game was in the next county. My nephew went to their locker room and I went into the gym and got a seat and waited for the start of the game. A little while later I see my nephew and a couple of his teammates come into the gym. As they came in they were taking off their warm up shooting shirts and threw them at this kid sitting below me and told him to take care of our shirts. The kid said "y'all got jokes" and he started to retrieve the shirts and sat back down. All I noticed about the kid was that he had long blond hair. Later on when I was driving my nephew home I thought that kid who they threw their shirts at look a little familiar. I asked my nephew and he said yes that was Trevor. He was so laid back and unassuming exactly the opposite of how you would think a Big Man of Campus would act after almost taking his team to the state championship. He sat there watching the game by himself. That's who he has always been. To me I see the same guy during those Jaguars after game press conferences that I saw that day.

Anyone else remember before he was drafted Trevor Lawrence saying he didn't need football? Is his head really in it?
@jakestumm4101Ай бұрын
You only need the word of God
@NickOder-iy4yoАй бұрын
@jakestumm4101 he wasn't paid because of his religion. Nothing wrong with the good word, but that shouldn't earn you 55 million a year, when your job is a quarterback in the NFL.

I've been posting this for a few years now - Before the 2021 Draft I thought the Jaguars should trade that #1 pick away for a king's ransom of draft picks and build around Gardner Minshew. Even if you don't think Minshew is any better than Lawrence, they at least could have several more good players moving forward. Doubt Minshew would've commanded a $50+ million extension too....

Trevor Lawrence showed flashes of real brilliance the first year & a half before getting injured. To say he’s in a slump this year so far would be an understatement. 🤨 Whatever has shaken his confidence needs to be corrected. I think he’ll get his act together. I’m sure he will. But negativity is a slippery slope. Things could get worse before they get better.

I don’t know why Trevor has been impervious to criticism until now. His expectations were higher than any other qb in the draft and he looks like a complete bust compared to what he was hyped to be
@beaujac311Ай бұрын
A whole lot of pressure comes with those expectations. I still believe in Trevor because I've watched his whole career since taking his high school team to the playoffs during his freshman season. He played his high school football at one of the more storied programs in the football crazy state of Georgia. He went to the playoffs all four seasons and won two championships. He went to Clemson with all those expectations and won the National Championship during his freshman season. So he is used to expectations being so high. I still believe once he is in a comfortable place he will again rise to the occasion.

NFL needs to implement some sort of max contract cap like the NBA does.
@IntimigatorАй бұрын
The two biggest problems for the team unfortunately were ignored last offseason. They didn't replace Press Taylor as offensive coordinator, when he clearly deserved to be fired after last year's collapse. And aside from signing Mitch Morse at Center, the Jaguars did nothing to improve an O-line that couldn't open any running lanes or keep Trevor Lawrence upright in the pocket for 3 seconds. Pederson should immediately be taking over play calling duties, but now I fear that won't even be enough to salvage this season.

This is what happens when you draft for “Image” and catering to a certain demographic. Daniel Jones of NY Giants same situation. SOB looks like “Wall Street.” So they paid him on his image. Some organizations are worried about “the face, the look of the leader.

I never bought into the Tevor Lawrence hype, I'm an Alabama fan and when Clemson beat us in the National Championship and everyone was throwing praise on how great he was because the final score got away, I was saying it was really his Receivers that night dominating the Bama secondary, and Bama's QB being injured.

GENERATIONAL TALENT TREVOR LAWRENCE

@@alonsoarambula356 I believe we ruined Trevor like we ruined every other 1st round QB in the last 15 years. Never protected them and they start seeing ghosts in the pocket when no one is around them.
@calebmartinez7460Ай бұрын
When are yall gonna look with your eyes and see that Trevor is CHEEKS? A "generational talent" playing like a journeyman who just arrived that week. He's missing EASY throws. Like elementary throws that any pro QB who is worth a roster spot can make. He's regressed so significantly it's actually crazy to see.
@alonsoarambula356Ай бұрын
@BryanFrench he makes rookie mistakes still staring down guys throwing into double coverage. He said there are more important things other than football during his draft interviews. His dad said he could walk away and not think twice before the draft. The red flag were there. He looks at it like a job. Not a career. Mahomes,Allen,lamar,Joe every qb wants to be the best and trevor just doesn't care. We people tell you who they are Believe them.

I’ve been a Trevor Lawrence defender but it’s time he steps up and plays like the QB he should be. He’s not their only problem but the QB is such a difference maker. Just look how much better Carolina played as a whole last week once they got some inspiring QB play from Dalton. It’s year 4 now and Lawrence is getting paid like a top 5 quarterback and he’s not even giving them top 16 production

Trevor was a can't miss selection coming out of college. He has loss all confidence. Once you lose your confidence the most basic throws become difficult.
@OnlyGamingClipsАй бұрын
The Jags coach needs to help Lawrence get some confidence back and start leaning on the run, and take some pressure off the kid, so he can build some confidence.
@delbeem1211Ай бұрын
1. This is why qb contracts of late are problematic. We have 2-3 tiers of pay that ate just empty rn. You have the tier at 50+ and the quality backups/rookies at 10. Nothing really in-between. Some guys are starters but not 50m starters. 2. They collapsed the second they vandalized the Terrible Towel last year. I'm not one for believing in curses but every time a teams done that in my lifetime they've become a dumpster fire til they make it right.

I love Doug too. But his play design, lack of motions, and misses while investing in OL/DL has directly resulted in the current state of the Jags
@jwynter5857Ай бұрын
That is Press Taylor. He is the offensive coordinator. He makes the game plan, he calls the plays and he designs the plays. That's what offensive coordinator's do. When the Head coach does that then the offensive coordinator's don't get looked at for jobs i.e. Byron Leftwich and Eric Bieniemy. That's why Doug is always downplaying the "who is calling the plays" questions. But Doug is definitely to blame for the team's failure.
@benwest1839Ай бұрын
Maybe Shad should let his nepobaby coach the team, too. Hell, let him play quarterback.
