Umm no Rich, you don't "pay him" in the sense you are referring. He is not a QB that you bankrupt a team for (actually EVERY team that overpays QBs become less competitive shortly after). You sign him to a reasonable contract that allows the Browns to keep good players around him. If Baker doesn't want to be reasonable and wants $40M+ a year, then yes, you let him walk and find another. Baker is NOT why this team is heading in the right direction (even given this seasons setbacks), quit acting like he is. Most QBs could win with this much talent. The Browns front office is finally got things going right and any QB benefits from it. You know why Brady is the GOAT? He was always smart enough to leave the team money to surround him with very good players. Do NOT break the bank for Baker. Keep him only if its a good but team friendly deal.

Kirk Cousins first 4 years were extremely trash, and Baker has thrown more yards and TDs in 4 years than Jimmy G has in 8 years lol. Baker has three 20+ TD seasons Jimmy only has 1 smh

Holcomb threw for 429 yards and 3 touchdowns in the playoffs in 2002. in the PLAYOFFS. When He was in the game the offense just came alive and he had instant chemistry with every receiver he was throwing to but as you said, that wasn't good enough and he was run out of town almost to spite him

The best option is seeing all your options this off-season. If Baker keeps slipping and regressing then you have to take all your options into consideration. It's been 4 years and he's had a 1 stretch of consistent football in 2020 when there was no fans in the stadium. Also absolutely hate the narrative he single handedly turn the Browns around. He was a piece of a puzzle, without Nick Chubb, Myles Garrett, Denzel Ward, a Top O-Line, all the talent we accrued along with Baker and now Stefanski/Berry we wouldn't have a successful 2020 season. Would love for Baker to go out and play consistent ball but he hasn't been consistent all year even before all his injuries. I don't believe at all it's start from scratch if you Draft a QB or bring in competition or sign a FA cause you got a lot of pieces locked up for years here. If they re-hire Hue Jackson and Dorsey then sure you might have an argument.

Mayfield is the best QB the Browns have had since their rebirth as a franchise in 1999. But he's not making anyone over 40 forget Bernie Kosar or Brian Sipe. Plus, that's not saying much considering the horrible QBs they've had...Manziel, Weeden, Kizer, etc. The only current veteran I would trade for who is always rumored to be traded is Derek Carr. I don't want another short QB like Russell Wilson, and I don't want to rent a guy like Aaron Rodgers for a year or two.I don't think those two wanna be in Cleveland anyway. I prefer a longer-term solution, so like Kenny Pickett of Pitt in the draft, but there would be a learning curve of course. So, if not Carr or Pickett, I'd just keep Baker for another year at least.

I mean you still have Case Keenum plus Bridgewater, Trubisky, Winston, and Tyrod (not the best one) will all be unrestricted free agents next offseason. They're not amazing options and there's no certainty that one of them will go to Cleveland but I would rather take that chance instead of paying Baker $30 million
