@Jswirv You are definitely correct as an overall assessment, I'm sure. Though, their exclusivity is variable from major to major. I was a good student, but not one of those crazy assholes who did extracurricular shit like drama, debate club etc. I test badly, so my SATs were probably crap, I can't remember. My GPA was pretty great though. I got in, but I applied with the intent to go into an incredibly tiny major, almost experimental major. High school performance isn't an accurate snapshot for what I was going to major in. But alas, I got accepted into what was otherwise called a 'flex school' by my college advisor in high school. It sucks that these rich-ass kids who could've gotten coaching on their SATs, or extra counselling, needed to be bribed into a college like USC. Crooked coaches aside, I feel like their admissions process is super fair. I put passion in my essays and visual work that I submitted in my application, and they saw that. That's why I got in. Debate club and drama programs were never going to be an accurate portrayal of what I had to offer, and USC picked up on that. Ok I drank a lot of wine and I'm feeling ranty. Sorry y'all! But USC is a legit school. Sucks that a few coaches put a tarnish on it.

Tigrisinntalute Listen man, I was just trying to clarify what another person was saying in response to the “it’s still a crime genius” comment. As for your point, I’m a bit unsure what you mean. Are you saying that because this crime must happen without knowledge (presumably that of authorities), then it follows that its a surprise to the general public? Full confession: In my college essay paper, I said I used to put batteries in series in my RC cars to make them go faster but that was a lie. The speed controller in the RC cars made it a pointless effort anyways. What I REALLY did was modify the mechanics of the car and tune the cars suspension to handle jumps. The electrical work I really did was mostly just ripping the guts out of fried circuit RC cars and experimenting with the motors. If only I knew Arduino back then :'(

I think the kids knew about it but bc it was their parents she didn’t want to turn them in bc it’s HER PARENTS but I think the kids were fully aware! The problem I have with it is she was getting endorsements off “being a college student” and she literally said on camera she doesn’t wanna go to learn she wants to go to party! It’s hard for someone who wanted to go to college but couldn’t get in or afford it! I couldn’t live my dream bc I couldn’t pay my way in as well as my grades but still it’s not fair for those who really try and have the grades but still can’t afford it!! Sorry Hila I agree and disagree with you. I understand why she didn’t say anything but they definitely knew about the scam!

copypasta: “I don’t know how much of school I’m gonna attend but I’m gonna go in and talk to my deans and everyone, and hope that I can try and balance it all,” she said. “But I do want the experience of like game days, partying…I don’t really care about school, as you guys all know.”

Who did she piss off to be the one who gets scapegoated, as if this isn't common among the elite. Lol, college has become a scam in and of itself these days. An academic/financial catch 22. Jobs require college for positions that are not that complex, when before you would just be trained on the job. One of my instructors was on meth and taught nothing, but 'he's got tenure' so.... 😒
@samarahoward99815 жыл бұрын
The True it’s not even the education it’s the degree, Ivy League colleges are literally only status symbols. Pretty much aslong as you finished college your employer will probably hire you.

@@samarahoward9981 Oh I know, I worked for Amazon. The management is required to have a degree, but the major doesn't matter at all. We had very unqualified people with a piece of paper from a college, leading infinitely more qualified workers who know the job at every level, as well as the most effective strategies for maximum production with minimal exhaustion/mental stress.

She states that she doesn’t believe in pressuring kids to get straight As in school; however, how else are we supposed to get into prestigious schools? The top 1% are financially able to persuade schools to admit their kids, the rest of us need to work our ass off every single night studying to get admitted. What she says in that video does not justify what she’s done.

I sorta thought this was the norm because of tv shows always making jokes about bribes, like buying Harvard a new library to get your son in. Maybe this is a case of tv writers knowing what happens behind the scenes, but ti wasn't supposed to be common knowledge, and tv normalized it for me ironically enough.

Totally side with Hila on this. I think it's really weird that Ethan is putting so much of it on the daughter. 100% it's fully on the mother. I don't get how you can assume that the daughter was "in on it" and knew that her mom literally bribed a faculty member for her to get in. Just from listening to her, I imagine that she thought her mom simply pulled some strings to get her in without knowing that any illegal monetary activity was taking place.

Back In the day people used to be crazy about the school they went to. I live in a town that used to be two towns - one soddy, one daisy. They were later combined and renamed Soddy Daisy to ease tension between residents who would often get in fights over their territory. It worked and there's no problems now but there are some seniors out there that still remember it that way and carry their grudges to this day.
