As somebody who goes to a private school and has met the children of these “old money” families, the main difference is they live In the countryside surrounded by old people with horrible internet connection. I know the posh, exclusive country clubs type of kids and they’re basically just normal kids but a lot more sheltered. No added class, although they tend to talk a little more formally, as In they use bigger words when speaking colloquially and therefore sound more educated. @@akennan3817 Money isn't made from setting up charities... except in government. That's how today's politicians get votes, get elected, and then get rich. People became millionaires and billionaires in This Country by seeing a need and/or having an idea, working their azzes off to make it happen, and taking high risks to get their products/services to the public, who then paid for the products/services in great numbers; hence, making those who put everything on the line millionaires and billionaires. They then passed along the bulk their wealth to their children and grandchildren so they could have a better life and not have the same struggles as they did. Just like most parents who came to America. They were just more successful at it. After making their money, Then the millionaires and billionaires Gave A Lot Of Money to fund charities, other businesses, educational institutions, orphanages, and other things to help people. Buying Chanel jackets was like going to Zara for her 😂 the boutique manager (idk what they’re called, sorry!) was her SA. But one thing about how she and her family shopped, from what I can recall, is that they didn’t really like the brand logo stuff. They liked the more obscure, collector pieces that (to my very limited knowledge) only people who really follow Chanel (or other designer brands), would recognize. She despised the CC Chanel logo, let alone the Gucci ones. Her father’s watch collection was insane, vintage Patek Philippe’s everywhere 😅😅 but they’re super generous they built schools and housings for the less fortunate so I respect them a lot.

Interesting thing I noticed is that while it’s true that they don’t flaunt their status or necessarily “wear their wealth” they do drop hints about their own or their families pedigree and wealth…such as they might mention (while seemingly drunk) their trust funds, private hospitals funded by their family’s foundation, very expensive art bought or sold, family spats or arguments over “rare books” and of course talk about the dreadfully boring boarding school they attended in Europe, they might mention (also while a little drunk) how their dad dipped his toes investing in some Hollywood movies and lost a mini fortune, and of course on occasion show you photos of…their family’s (extended family and friends) annual vacation to some exotic location like climbing the mountains in Tibet, or attending their mom’s birthday party where all their friends and family gathered in someone’s Chateau in Venice…etc etc

Many are still family homes; especially in England which still has a Royal Family and a fully preserved aristocracy. For example, Castle Howard (featured in this video using the promo shot for the TV series “Brideshead Revisited”), is still lived in by the Howard Family; and has since building began in 1699. I just visited Holkham Hall recently for their “Christmas by Candlelight” tour, and the descendants of those who built that are also still living there; and use *every* single room (when tours are not on of course). The guide even said that when they have people over for parties, the guests actually use the state bedrooms, and sleep in the huge beds that are original to the house (surrounded by master paintings and priceless tapestries and furniture).

If I understand the visual difference correctly, the rich people earlier had an aesthetic where wearing certain fabrics and silhouettes, and having custom pieces was the way to show your financial status (because the process of fabric producing was way harder and more expensive in comparison with today’s market). Today’s rich people dress in the clothes where the brand is more important than the clothing piece itself or it’s quality. Also, maybe the social aspect of this is that before it was about the quality and quantity shown to the group of associates, and now it’s more about showing everyone what you can afford. Hence, the rich people’s competitors earlier was their class only, and now they openly idolise themselves in mass view because that’s how we live.
