Thanks for the positive comments everyone. This was recorded with a live band all on the recording floor at the same time. For purposes of this educational video, I added the finished track on top of my studio performance. I hope this helps. I co produced this, so I had a say in the form, feel, tempo and musical ideas. I also offer drum lessons via Skype. Email: booking@richredmond.com Thanks! RR

That totally makes sense, because if you did not add the track all you would hear would be drums! I've been in a lot of places like this and you are a very good drummer!

I love the Rock grooves you brought to the country world. A great pocket player but I also like how you lay back ala...Bonham in a few of your tracks. Also the hi hat technique in this one is very Rock oriented with the heavy hand approach. Always tastefully played. Most drummers only like those who are over the top technical. But being a drummer myself I prefer the less is more approach. You rock

@Killenmachine05 Also, Rich is all over the radio. He has trademark licks. Zac Browns drummer has his trademark licks. Just start trying to hear what it is that makes each drummer themselves. These guys follow the rules, but also express their own voice. Check out my videos. I have lots of lesson stuff.

Hey Rich- Got some questions..on the 2nd verse, on the 2nd measure you lift the hh on the "and" of 4, and then on the 4th measure you lift it on the "and" of beat 3. As a non Nashville studio guy, I concern myself with this stuff because I think it is the rule that if you lift on 4 and, you have to lift on 4 and the next time too. Am I too nit-picky? I just imagine being down there and a producer pointing something like that out, and me getting fired. Also, overdubs, not live band?

Have watched a lot of videos of you now, and it all sounds great. Seen some videos where you track songs and got really curious of what headphones you are using? It looks like it could be any of the "Metrophones" models?

@JTJ10512 жыл бұрын
Sure, the part he performs could be played by a drum machine, but it wouldn't even come close to carrying the same weight his recorded track does. Dave Grohl and Mike Portnoy have the opportunity to show off in there music.This drumming is all about the song and setting a mood. And to the "less is more" point. This has never left...the beatles are a classic example of that. To play with patience when you have so much skill and chops worked up is extremely challenging.

He is laying it back on purpose - I knew he'd do it as I saw the snare angle - rock style :) Then you can actually hear he's 2 hairs behind when doing the singles on the snare fill - I'm sure that's intentional (and quite hard to do actually).

@coltrain210 You're comment just made me realize I will never be able to be a session drummer, feels bad man :(
@coltrain21013 жыл бұрын
@Killenmachine05 Haha. Dude, that is really the funniest thing of my day. It is really funny. Yo, so what, I listen close. It took me a long time to get there. You just have to start noticing those things, especially in this kind of music. Not that this is my video to be giving advice on, but when I listen, Itry to listen for the nuance. In Nashville, it seems these guys are machines with their consistency. So, when I heard that, I had to ask.

hate to break it to you man, but you are wrong as wrong can be. He is solid and has DICIPLINE! He has played since he was 8 years old. He knows what he doing. and make fun of the faces all you want, but that is ALL passion. Rich even says, "Play from the heart, it will set you apart". Dont hate on talent man.

It's amazing how many beginner drummers posting here don't even know they are beginners. This guy is exactly where every drummer wishes he/she could be or at least strive to be. He doesn't have the personality? This guy is all personality behind the drums and to compare him to Portnoy? Seriously, grow up and get a life. Get out of the garage or the basement. This song is 3:13 long and he probably made more in that time than you make in shitty paycheck.
