Thank you Sensei. We met when my daughter was training with Westwood where she achieved 1st Dan. I”m now training and will be using your valuable insights with my 8th Kyu grading in 2 weeks time. I look forward to your tutorial for 7th Kyu.

Does this apply to jka shotokan style? Or is something different or you teach jka? I gona try nidan to end of this term and graduate
@richardamos31737 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. I was JKA from 1974 to 2000 but found the group stifled any evolution. Certain elements in my teaching may vary from other organizations, and it is best for you to try each approach to develop what you feel makes most sense. Ultimately all the JKA instructors during the Nakayama sensei years were very different from each other. We can learn from them all.

Oss Sensei Amos. Another great video. Thank you for doing these. At the start of Heian Nidan, could you please explain more about the third hand technique - is it a Seiken Tsuki (as seen in Sensei Nakayama's Best Karate book 5) or is it Tettsui ? Thank you.
@richardamos31734 жыл бұрын
I almost always use seiken with a nagashi-zuki on that 3rd move. Tettsui could be ok for a quick hit to the neck or a weaker area immediately after movement 2 though. Remember kokutsu-dachi does not really allow for much power sideways, especially with the full hikite, but a straight-on seiken-zuki has the solidity of the whole body lined-up behind it.

@@richardamos3173 Oss Sensei Thank you for your reply. Perhaps I mean technique 4 ? In your video, it is at 20:44.
@richardamos31734 жыл бұрын
@@karatefella - I think we're talking about the same technique at 20:44 - you can see a little more of what I prefer later in the clip. What I don't like about tettsui is that the hand tends to swing in an outward arc from the body because it's leading the movement. Dominating with the core, on the other hand, means that the primary source of power can send a nagashi-zuki directly to the target. Hope that helps. Osu
