Honestly, Richard is a champ for picking up on the shop owner's vibe and showing some empathy.

You can get those small boxes in India for 25- 50 cents. Probably 4-5 $ if you’re a foreigner who can’t bargain. Gotta hustle!

I'm glad that Richard gave the shopkeeper an extra 50 d because for one small container it was 3 pounds that works out as 6 dollars in my country Australia. and that is cheap because that little circle container its decorated and has multiple containers inside it so in my country that would be sold for $10 (5 pounds) or $15 or even more. That shopkeeper is cheaper than my country so I'm glad he was given the right money for it. Try shopping in my country Australia it's ridiculous.

Try understanding that things are priced based on location due to differences in manufacturing costs, overhead for things like storage, rent etc and the value of the local currency. I live in New York City, but I don’t think people in other locations should pay the same prices we pay here.
