The Long Walk is one of those stories that just stayed with me .... I wouldn't say scarred but , left a dent in my brain with it's shocking moments . I think because it was so easy to put yourself in that position .

I know, it’s so easy to picture yourself in that situation. Ever since I read it I kept thinking how far I could manage just walking provided that I’m provided with food and water. The idea is so interesting, definitely one of King’s best work.

I'm sooo excited for this adaptation! A few days after I read The Long Walk, I was running in a race up a mountain and I wanted to stop running but I was imagining myself as one of the boys in the story and I pictured some soldiers firing if I stopped, so I didn't 😂 I am also so happy for NOS42 and Locke & Key's adaptations, they were some of my favorite books of last year!!

This was such an enthralling and horrifying story. I think the movie could either be watered down for a pg-13 rating, or they could make it as brutal and violent as the book. Rly hoping for the latter!!!

shoot they kept the stand close to original ,, i think if he has a hand in it it will be so true to the book ,, i was disappointed by the tower movie just totally not with any of the books

The novel is perfect movie material but it won't take much to turn it into YA garbage, I hope they keep it as brutal and terrifying as the novel.

I put off watching Maleficent when it came out because I thought it would suck. But now with a sequel being released I thought to give it a try and thought it was great. I think this should have been the way the dark tower should have been made. How dare they!! I'm going to pick up Scary stories to read in the dark. I haven't read anything of this before. Hope it doesn't suck!!

The Long Walk is not the Near Future. It's an alternate reality set in 1979, and therefore another floor on The Dark Tower. Stephen King wrote the book in 1966 but didn't publish it until 1979.

I don't think it was a last man standing situation , I think they have to reach a certain checkpoint & they're in the clear , but it takes 3 - 4 solid days of continues walking to reach ... can't quite remember either lol. I really want to read that book again now =).

Everyone gets the rules wrong when explaining how The Long Walk works. Here is the definitive guide patcoston.com/stephenking/TheLongWalk-Rules.aspx You can stop for 1 minute 59 seconds every 3 hours if you walk those 3 hours without warnings. Every walker has a 2-minute timer. If their speed in the correct direction falls below 4 mph, their timer counts down. They get warnings at 90, 60 and 30, and get shot at 0. There are also penalty-warnings which are also tied to their timer.

Stephen King had the idea for The Long Walk in high-school about 1964/1965, then wrote it as a freshman in college from 1966/1967, couldn't get it published, but later published as Richard Bachman in 1979, after updating it to reflect current pop culture in 1978. Don't call it a dystopian future. It's set in 1978 as an alternate reality, since there are references to a history that never happened. Here's a link describing how the book is dated and is clearly set in our past patcoston.com/stephenking/TheLongWalk-NearFuture.aspx There is also a link to another page describing why it's an alternate reality. I'm currently updating the book to the year 2020 as fan-fiction so my version has what it would have if it were set in our near future which is self-driving Teslas, death drones, iPhones, iPads, Apple watches, every walker can live-stream their vlog over the Internet, Artificial intelligence, Bio-metrics like facial recognition, voice recognition and Iris scanning, every kid would have multiple branding sponsors, they wouldn't have to wear food-belts, they could order food and drink from a food-drone via their iPhones, GPS trackers, they're allowed contact with the crowd, so every kid would have personal trainers giving them massages and stretching their muscles at regular intervals, plus they'd have the latest hiking shoe technology, and they'd all be trained in psychological warfare, and strategies, and so on.
