Richard Cadell is a British illusionist, puppeteer, actor and screenwriter, best known for being the in-vision presenter and the hand of puppet Sooty since succeeding Matthew Corbett in 1998.
He is a Gold Star Member of the Inner Magic Circle and Past President of the British section of International Brotherhood of Magicians. He once owned Brean Leisure Park in the coastal village of Brean in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset from 2002-2014 and also works as a consultant for TV and stage productions.
In this interview, Richard shares his experience performing as an illusionist, a puppeteer and even talks about his upcoming tour dates for X-Treme. This is an interview you really don't want to miss!

What a blast from the past this was! I saw Richard do his motorcycle act at the Playhouse in Weston-super-Mare (where I live). And one of the funniest moments in my life was when Richard was booked at the Playhouse to be the live entertainment during a talent show. He had to entertain the audience while the judges deliberated. I was a journalist then, and was at the side of the stage with my photographer while Richard performed, so we could 'pounce' on the winner once they were named and came off stage. Richard did an illusion where a girl apparently vanished from one tank of water and appeared in another across the stage - and me and my photographer shared a moment during that act, when one of the girls in the act joined us at the side of the stage, and all these years on, the photographer and I still giggle like naughty little schoolboys when we remember it. So thanks, Richard!!! Great interview.

Absolutely loved this interview. Richard mentored me in constructing my own illusion act from his then residency location @ Brean during the 1990's. His warm friendly help so valuable to me and my team back then. From building illusions to building self-confidence, Richard was and indeed still is inspirational and that passion he has for the entertainment's industry always shines through. I still have his sequined stage costume jackets which he handed down to me at the time I was building my act as I couldn't afford to buy my own. These were complete with Richard's "R C" initials sewn onto the front of them from his own early-stage act branding. Sadly, I'm long passed fitting in them now due to middle age spread 😀.

I remember when you purchased Sooty When we was living in Brean All the VHS tapes in the front room You was watching all the different Sooty tapes They were stacked up to the ceiling lol

I loved that. Had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Harry (Sooty's dad). How I wish Harry could have seen this. Richard is a lovely guy and a real trouper.

Great interview as was the one Richard did with Richard Young years ago on magicians podcast. Also shame about Dave Shaw as I used to visit a few times his house were he ran his Quality Props business in Coventry not far from me years ago where I brought cartoon deck by Dan Harlan when it first came out amongst other things.

Fascinating, and Richard is a good lad, I'm happy to have known him now i think since he was 15 years old when he used to go out a RICHARD CADELL AND HIS GIRLS, and im looking forward to his EXTREME MAGIC SHOW with the great John Archer in Blackpool, even so, I've turned down booking to have a night off to see the show
