The Open Mind: On this program, the guest is science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.
Heffner opens the program by confessing that he is not a science fiction reader and then introduces his viewers to Asimov, who discusses the following topics, among others: why he chose science fiction as his vehicle to teach the public about the importance of human rationality; how he views God and mysticism; why the human race needs to concentrate on real problems instead of invented fears; why people are returning to mysticism instead of believing in scientific findings; how he feels about people who claim to want a simpler life without scientific inventions; why the grimness of fairy tales is more important than their happy endings; what he feels are the problems of humanity; why there is international cooperation; and why he views scientists as being the most rational of all human beings
