@@morrisconnor8305 The reality of Jesus being what exactly? I am totally baffled (and a little amused) when people say "Jesus loves you". How can a man who was executed for crimes against the state twenty centuries ago in any sense love anyone? Nobody has ever risen from the dead obviously, nor has anyone ever been born of a virgin.

@Michael Brown Evolution is an observable fact, known well before Darwin. The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection is the explanation of the process that leads to that observed fact. Unlike religion, where holy books cannot be challenged, scientists recognise that Darwin had some things wrong and his Theory has been modified as new evidence has been discovered. That's the advantage of science, that is always open to being wrong and prepared to change to take into account all evidence available, over religion, that clings tenaciously to old explanations in the face of contradictory evidence. Not all Christians are as prepared to deny the obvious as you, however. The vast majority of the World's Christians accept that evolution is proven, even though they may believe that it is God-directed rather than by natural selection. It must be very sad to live in a world where you think that loyalty to your God means denying observed reality.

@ConsumeristScroffa
@ConsumeristScroffa 5 жыл бұрын
@Papple Fag Christianity in particular, I would agree with you on that. But I was talking about butthurtness. I hope I didn't just invent that word. lol I see a lot of atheists that much emotionally engaged in this argument to the point that they just use vile language. Like the way you formulated your comment for example. How else could I justify the use of words like "shit", "bullshit", "morons", "idiot", "dumbass"? Mind you, I just started from the word that you used in your comment and just scrolled down to find similar expressions. People are going to say that it's criticism. But it's quite obvious that if you take away those characterizations, you will still have a solid criticism. More so, the removal of those words could enhance your criticism in the eyes of the other side of the argument. So, my only assumption is that this is hate disguised as criticism. And that I want to criticize because it doesn't help anyone. We can have a great civilized conversation on the topic without that. Modern atheists seem to have moved from engaging in an argument to just provoking the other party. The other side does the same thing most of the times and even worse when they say things like "burn in hell" which I find atrocious. But, it seems to me that atheists are not that much ideological, so I think something good can come out of my criticism towards them as they seem to listen more carefully than Christians. Of course, I am not referring to you in particular. Just those who want to provoke instead of having a productive conversation. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you will give some consideration to the problem.

This is an Irish programme, and I'm an Irish man. Ireland isn't a Catholic country anymore. Probably some people still believe, but it's dwindled massively. It's now a progressive and exciting place to live. We lived under the tyranny of the church for years, and we've cast it off. And it was tyrannical, under the Vatican, Ireland was a backwater, held back by the morality police, who judged us while also raping our children and enslaving unwed mothers. It was horriffic and we're glad to be rid of it.

Complex 'design'. Physical constants. Our 'moral' nature. These were his amazing so called 'evidences' of a god, and yet NONE of those things require a god and still don't provide any evidence that any god exists. In fact, all three of those 'evidences' are EXACTLY the same ones that creationists have used for decades and which have been constantly and consistently debunked as unscientific. This guy may be employed as a scientist due to some pieces of paper, but he isn't really a scientist at all.
@tsopmocful1958
@tsopmocful1958 4 жыл бұрын
@J w "...may be employed as a scientist..." "...isn't really a scientist..." I never explicitly said that he wasn't a scientist. He may well be qualified as a scientist and work as a scientist - even though we don't know that for sure, because he simply claimed that he was one who worked in healthcare, so we can only take his word for it. But none of that was the point I was making. My point was that he openly claimed that there was evidence of God, and yet when he was asked point blank what that evidence of God is, all he said was 'complexity', 'physical constraints' and 'our moral nature'. None of these things are evidence of God. And they are in fact the EXACT same talking points that creationists still use even though they have been consistently debunked as unscientific over a long period of time. If this guy on the vid is a scientist who has put his own faith aside to look at those things dispassionately, then he should know that. That is what I meant when I said that he wasn't 'really' a scientist, because he clearly hasn't. And please keep in mind that just being 'a scientist' says nothing about someone's particular speciality or if they are even a good scientist. After all, there's a world of difference between a post graduate employed to develop a safer form of eyeshadow for a cosmetics company and a head particle physicist working at CERN. In other words, anyone who says that God must exist because a 'scientist' believes in God is saying nothing at all, and is only committing the logical fallacy of 'appealing to authority', which simply isn't evidence of God. We must also always remember that claiming to have scientific evidence of God is an enormous and extraordinary claim, and so requires an enormous and extraordinary piece of evidence to support that claim. For us to discover scientific evidence of God would be a much larger discovery than discovering extraterrestrial life, and so would not only be huge world wide news, but would dramatically change the course of human history forever. That is why anyone claiming to have such evidence on a late night panel show or in a youtube comment section needs to be regarded with a huge grain of salt.

I was catholic for 35 years. I passed through tough position and light ones as to think that some day science and religion could met each other and that god is expressed in a consensus of all religions, but i studied history of religion, christian mythology, quantum chemistry at Master Degree and molecular biology, I realized that god is a human creation. I have my excuses to be religious for so long time, but I am ashamed to think that I was.

Every person is born an atheist...that is, with NO religious beliefs (or any other kind, for that matter). Whatever flavor of 'faith' (a pisspoor substitute for critical thinking) that one embraces is from parental, authoritarian or peer pressure along with the culture into which one happens to be born. Virtually all ADULT atheists are former believers who managed to rouse their inherent intellectual abilities and seriously investigate what they were conditioned to accept as 'truth' which is why they invariably know far more about the tenets and dogma of the institution from which they managed to escape than those who remain captive to it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following quote from Stephen F. Roberts sums up the situation very nicely: "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

Richard has hit the nail on the head and has explained God away and rendered religion obsolete in the modern world. It will just take time for everyone else to catch up, but they are catching up, and thankfully the scourge of religion will undoubtedly vanish in the near future and will no longer be holding humanity back from its bright future.

Harin Hasindha That’s the funniest thing I’ve read in ages. 1. Dicky Dawkins will never be given a knighthood. He’s too much of an embarrassment to the scientific community to even be considered for such honours. 2. Haven’t you heard, he’s on the way out. A stroke a while back left him sounding like Hawking, and considering the amount of gay bars he visits in Oxford it’s only a matter of time.

What the fuck do you know about science community? Looks like you are an embarrassment to the world. You might know it too. That's why you are trying to smear someone's good name. Knowing that you are a worthless piece of shit who nobody gives a shit about. Worthless to no one. pity. So anyways where i come from the word "sir" does not mean only a knighthood. It is a word we use to show respect. So don't try to stick your worthless beak where it doesn't belong. At least then no one will ever know you are a worthless religious sack of shit. You worthless troll shit.
