Watch the interview: the view that Bill Maher and Sam Harris were advocating was akin to People who believe in Islam are terrorists. So invading them is a civilising mission, killing them en masse is justified. It's not a good comparison. "Jewish" can mean a few unique things. It means that either you are of Jewish race, Jewish religion (non-ethnic Jews can be Jewish by converting to Judaism), or both. Islam has no such equivalent definitions. You are either Islamic or you are not and it has zero to do with race.

Whether that is a valid use of the word can be argued and in fact I would argue that it is not, but I don't get to decide how people use language. It comes down to colloquialism. There is no colloquial reference to Islamic people as a race. Sure, some ignorant racist people may refer to people of Middle Eastern descent as "Muslims", but that is a far cry from accepted and widely used language to refer to a race. The analogy doesn't work. Anyone who wishes to criticize Islam is not being racist and to say otherwise is willful ignorance.
