In this VladTV Flashback from 2020, former NBA player Richard Dumas recounted being part of the Phoenix Suns squad, led by Charles Barkley, who played against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Finals. Dumas's take is interesting in the wake of Barkley's recent back-and-forth with Kevin Durant over being the leader of a championship team.

I remember Richard Dumas! He was the Small Forward for the Suns & he used to jump out the gym! He was a slasher & athletic wing! I didn't know about the drugs & alcohol but it's good to see that he's still alive!

MJ said he went out with Charles Barkley and paid him money so that Charles wouldn't play hard in the championship 😳 The Sun's were very talented, but I guess they didn't have a heart of a champion?

Interesting to listen to Richard talk openly about some of the issues he had with crowds, lights, fans, etc. To think he was playing all of those games after drinking 6 beers yet still played like that was amazing. He's the best player ever to come out of Oklahoma State and he was well on his way to being an all star for years to come. It's truly too bad he wasn't able to overcome his issues and drug problem. He was every bit as good as somebody like Grant Hill or Reggie Miller with their same build at 6'7".

Hey Dumas - thanks for speaking out. Been watching you since high school. We went to school together in Stillwater. Didn't know what demons you were dealing with back then but you were clearly a man in a fight with himself. I hope you're getting all the help you need. Never be afraid to reach out when you need a hand up.

I loved this dude back in the day. He was my under dawg. It was a shame they didn't have therapy for him back in the day. Him and Reggie Lewis were players that got their careers cut way too early. This clip brought back great memories, being a sports fan back in the day was so much better; it was about who got game, not politics.
