It was actually revealed that Jeremy, James, and Richard made a pact that should one of them die while filming the show, the other two would open the next episode of the show announcing the death, and after a minute of silence, continued with a comical "anyway.." and soldier on with the show's segment as if nothing had happened. I think it brilliantly shows their bond as a team, as they've mentioned that the reason the rest of the team always left the one that broke down during their trips behind was because they believe so long as the others carry on, the team carries on, and in that way, everybody no matter what, gets to finish their adventure together.

considering the nature of the crash, it's evident that rimac builds a very solid chassis and shell, because the cabin maintained its integrity even after a big drop and going over several times. the fire was to be expected, when you mangle a bunch of high voltage wires it's just going to happen. i do clearly believe that what happened was a mixture of richard reflexively trying to drive the car as if it were NOT super intelligent, and the car taking that reflex as command and sort of over-doing it. all around, however, incredible car, and we're all happy that the Hampster is still with us for more seasons of inane babble and fun road trips.

@iSOBigD6 жыл бұрын
Matt S This is not a competition about who can survive a crazier crash. You cannot reproduce crashes in the open like that in order to claim that a jeep is safer than anything else. I guarantee you if you took 100 people, put them in a crash that involved rolling 300 feet, not everyone would make it out of that jeep. By design the jeep rolls over much easier and it's not known as having the best crash tests so I don't know why you keep bringing it up. If you'd like to compare, the electric Model X got the highest crash test results of any SUV so again your Jeep example may have been pure luck.

After watching this several times & drawing as much detail as I could from it… it is WELL worth mentioning. Rimac, as a manufacturer & as a man - has my sincere respect. Most any manufacturer I could name, I would FULLY expect to throw a blanket over this and publicly reveal ONLY what a court or some other ‘authority’ would make them reveal. Rimac not only did not do that, they’ve allowed this which seems to be an honest and open discussion of the car’s strengths & the car’s possible weaknesses. It might or might not be the ‘smart’ thing from a business standpoint. I think it IS smart. And I must admit, if I were in the market for an all-electric super car… it would be a Rimac or nothing. I cannot find adequate words to describe how much I appreciate everyone creating this, filming it, and allowing us all to see it. There is a WEALTH of detailed information available here, and it rightfully should increase interest not simply for Hamster but for the Rimac brand as well.

There's all these people now saying that "Rimacs aren't safe," and "Oh look, the car burst into flames after he crashed." True the car may have caught fire after the crash, but that is totally understandable. Most cars, electric or gas powered, would have most likely blown up. The Concept One did a great job of protecting Hammond after he rolled many many times down a steep hill. All that he was left with was a broken leg/knee. That is really not bad at all considering the circumstance. My point is, let's commend the Concept One for keeping Hammond alive instead of talking trash about the car and saying it is unsafe just because it (very understandably) caught fire after the crash.

Having a world famous person who's renowned for crashing fast cars total your car is good publicity, but he's smart in appearing in this video as he explains why it occurred. I think Hammond didn't understand the ceo's point though about the speed of steering wheel input in the crash was the problem causing the cars traction control to try to keep up, causing the car to induce oversteer so it was going in the direction the car assumed the driver intended. Sadly in this case, the excess speed meant recovering that was not possible.

From the video footage, to me it seems like, he went into the corner too fast, weight transfer happened, resulting in snap oversteer and since he was already on the limit of grip, he quite simply slid off the road, since a sliding tyre has less grip then a gripping one.

At age 14 or 15 I was passenger in a VW Golf that rolled over 5 or 6 times landing upside down in a ditch after the driver tried taking a corner late while we were doing at least 60km, he then for some reason pulled the E-Brake to try and correct SMH. I can't imagine how much scarier Richard's accident would have been.

Hammond is by far my favorite host and I always feel bad for him when Jeremy and James are being mean to him, he's just so precious and when I watched this episode with the crash I was really shaken but happy that he was basically alright. Please don't do more stupid stuff Hammond

It wouldn't be Hammond without the stupidity

I agree. Clarkson offends to many people, and May drives too slowly 😂 The only thing Hammond does wrong is survive fatal crashes lol

Richard is my fav too but I love all of them.

Hammond seriously. You've won the lottery twice. Don't buy a ticket for the third time. Review Fiestas from now on.

rivolinho But not the ST version, the low powered diesel might be a "safe bet" ;)... Anyway, glad that Hammster is ok and keep up the good work.

rivolinho but what will May do?
@rivolinho7 жыл бұрын
NEONred Drive the hyper/super cars obviously. Hard to crash them doing a sensible 55 mph.

To be honest, i think May's more scientific approach has saved him various times. He drove the Bugatti Veyron in 100 % focus instead of trying to drift an electric beta car on a hillclim.

The ending section was a little awkward, but I'm glad it's been kept in there. I think most people could probably see that the car was going a little too quick for that corner. In saying that, I still like Hammond a lot. Well done Rimac CEO for standing his ground on why it happened, and doing so with a very level head.

Yeah, that was funny how the data (and your eyes) made it very clear why he went over the edge but Hammond wouldn't simply take any blame "it understeered for the first time, why did it do that". Instead of "Oh, yeah I see that I was going a lot faster into that corner that time." Apparently accidents happen but driver error doesn't.

That was one well built car. Rolled for 100m after crashing at 300mph, and he came out of it alive. Many cars fall apart if you reverse into a wall while parking. It was a brilliant machine. The crash was a mistake, a bad one but I'm glad that Richard is still with us

Remember Richard writing "On the Edge" about the dragster crash? He can now bring out a new book called "Over the Edge" 😉
