@TheBlobGNS5 жыл бұрын
They canceled the original defender because sales were going down, and it was time for a new beginning. It would be almost impossible to make an updated version of original defender because they would have to jack the price so much. Getting a square body like the G Wagon to become aerodynamic was not cheap and that's why the G Wagon is so damn expensive. After all, the original Defender was supposed to be a cheaper, rugged offroad vehicle that almost anyone could get their hands on.

The thing is, it was impossible for the new model to be like this due to regulations. A new mass produced car has to have airbags, ABS, ESC, lane assist, forward collision warning (which means cameras and/or RADAR), a rear camera and other safety features in order to be even allowed into most developed markets. Land Rover realized this pretty early on and then went took into consideration that most buyers of 4x4s these days are not looking for a hardened vehicle that basically handles like a tractor on the road. They did not want nor could afford to create a car as unsafe as the new Jimny, which looks amazing and is very capable off-road, but also got poor crash test ratings (which will likely bar it from the US market forever) and topples over easily. I understand why fans are unhappy about this car, but this was inevitable. Their expectations just can not be met considering the current market climate and set of regulations that car manufacturers have to adhere to.
