We cant denied the facts, in the serie the actors who played Richard and Elizabeth had a great chemistry those stares were fireworks even when they relationship was developed on a single chapter, from the moment Richard saw Elizabeth in Westminster Abbey he felt attraction for her, he said he would use every card to win the war but nevertheless he was behind that door looking at her intently meanwhile his eyes shines 0:27 at the end i think his character fell in love with her as he said to her in the starz version even though Richard was projected as a mysterious, dark prince that you would never guess what he was thinking in his head .

Elizabeth of York was given two books by her uncle, Richard III-Tristan and Iseult and Boethius Consolatio Philosophiae. In the first book, Elizabeth wrote her motto-“Without Changing” under Richard’s signature. In the second book, she curiously wrote Richard’s motto “Loyalte me Lie” and then signed her name. Here is why I find this funny. If you knew this history then you know Tristan is forced to kill Iseult’s maternal uncle in a power struggle the uncle started but in which they both see themselves as justified. The parallel here is clear. This is before Tristan meets Iseult - EoY comes from sanctuary. After meeting Iseult Tristan is treated for an illness by her - Richard comforted by EoY after EoM’s death. Tristan and Iseult fall in love over their shared love of music - Richard and EoY both liked music. Circumstances (her mother’s rage) force them apart but eventually the mother comes to terms with Tristan and recognizes he did what he had to Again, parallels are obvious. However, Tristan has to marry Iseult to someone else, they have no choice, but tell each other their love lasts. For bonus points, Iseult"s mother is claimed to be a 'sorceress' by some. Tristan marries someone else but he loves only Iseult and his marriage is chaste - Richard is married to Anne but their marriage seemed to flounder by that time and remember richard tried to arrange a marriage between him and johanna of Portugal after Anne's death, Joahana never married and was know because her professed chastity she was sanctified by church years later. Does anyone else see the irony? If they were actually given by richard, dude was another level of brilliance lol.

Those two books have paradoxes, 'Boethius Consolatio Philosophiae' is about how riches, power and honor are useless, as they arrive, they leave, nobody should base their happiness on such fragile foundations. Happiness must come of something more solid, something that cant be taken away from you. Also Boethius always refers to philosophy as a woman, who comforts him at his worse.

There is a fiction book written that explores the relationship and the book Tristan and Isolde which Richard gave to Elizabeth this is called The Kings niece. By Liz Orwin. It’s such a tragedy. It is history but I would have rather see Richard and Elizabeth marry than to see Tudors take over. Even historians Thomas Penn have explored that option. It would have stopped Tudor invasion. But after opposition from the court they both lacked resolve for it.

Yeah he CARED for Anne. But whenever she asked him if he loved her, he always said yes, and then had this scary look in his eyes like he just lied to her. (the episode where George of Clarence dies. You should rematch their hugging scene one more time.) Maybe in real life Richard did love Anne, but the way the book is written and in the way the actors had so much tension and suspicion in their spouses makes you think the Philippa thought about it differently too. Her mom was a crazy selfish b*tch leaving her all like that during a war. But the Countess of Warwick was right about one thing, Richard could divorce her and keep all of her money. He rushed her into marriage knowing she would agree since she liked him, and NEVER GOT PAPAL DISPENSATION. Elizabeth was just a attraction fling. He was just attracted to Lizzie cause she was a younger and gorgeous. To Princess Lizzie it was love, or rather infatuation to her 12 year older good looking uncle.

SailorVenusYaten1001 It would certainly not be surprising or even unusual if Richard had married Anne for her inheritance. Most marriages were made with property and inheritance in mind, not love. And Anne became a Duchess and a member of the royal family, so she did pretty well out of it... The required papal dispensation was received a couple of months before they married She would have known that Richard would get her property. Hopefully she knew about the clause and if she didn't that would have been a bad mark against Richard. But there was never a divorce. I'm reading a biography by Alison Weir and Richard apparently was interested in marrying Lizzie. His councilors discouraged the marriage and there was no papal dispensation for such a close relationship, although I'm sure that wouldn't have stopped him. The other problem is her bastardization, which was the basis of Richard's title to the throne. Either he was being ruthlessly pragmatic or he knew at heart that Elizabeth was Edward's lawful child. A marriage would raise the awkward admission that the princes were not only legitimate but also dead. It would have been so interesting what would have happened if he had won Bosworth. I suppose Lizzie and he would have married foreign royalty.

Richard cried over anne in her funeral, she was his wife for over 10 years but when talked he sounded more worried about the rumor that he poisoned her and about Henry coming with his army against him and due to that rumor he could lost the north men support because of their love for Anne. He sounded more sorry for his throne than for his dead wife. In the last chapters he shame anne and he doesn't care about anne's feels and not matter if people say it was just for win the war but he doesn't repair to shame her if he would achieve his purpose therefore he acted as if he no longer loves her anymore.

When I watched the White Queen I felt like Richard was leading Anne and Elizabeth on, I didn’t believe he loved either of them but he recognised what he could materially and politically gain from the relationships. There’s an air of mystery about him which reflects how little we know about the real Richard’s character/motivation. I thought Richards character was played quite closely to the book although it’s been a while since I read it! I don’t know much about the evidence around Richard and Elizabeth, I know Elizabeth’s wrote a letter which was quite (to the modern eye at least) gushing and does seem like she had a crush on her Uncle! Also Richard had to publicly acknowledge he was not marrying her. I wonder if Elizabeth was drawn to her fathers brother through grief, could more have been made of it than was really happening? Who knows!!! Makes a great story 👍

There is a very slim chance that anything ever happened between them. I mean look at the actual facts, he stole the crown from her brothers, he put them in the tower, he had the most to gain by killing her brothers and even if he wasn't the one who ordered their deaths he was just as guilty bc he was the one who put them in the tower and made them vulnerable to someone getting rid of them. Look no one knows for sure what happened in history back then on certain things but overall what we do know is that Richard III stole the crown and is most likely behind the disappearance of the princes and in the end he paid for it with his life.

I personally prefer Freya Mavor because I've seen her act in Skins. She has way better chemistry with Aneurin Barnard (Richard III). They played lovers in a movie made a few years ago. Also her look and vibe just fit the enchanted princess better. Jodie (Lizzie in WP) still did an amazing damn job in The White Princess. it's not some fake idea she made up. Phillipa got the idea from a 500 hundred year old historian account. "THE BUCK LETTER" Now there are two Bucks. A George Buck who lived during the time of King James I's reign, who documented many of the previous King stories. One of the other Bucks' discoveries was that historians have spent the last few decades arguing over, is the letter from Elizabeth of York to the Duke of Norfolk. Elizabeth wrote a personal letter to the Duke of Norfolk (a family trusted friend at the time). Pretty much the letter just says both her heart and her body view Richard as her only joy and maker. Of course many people argued if this person was worth believing. In 1979, (a descendant of) Buck had translated the letter and another historian had confirmed the translation was authentic enough to be proof and true... Unfortunately the original letter from Elizabeth of York is lost. Buck claims to have seen it in the private collection of the Earl of Arundel and reproduced the text. Buck’s original manuscript has survived, complete with notes and revisions from his great-nephew, also George Buck. But it was damaged by fire in the 18th century and parts of the text are missing or illegible. Elizabeth truly loved her uncle (platonically or romantically), but he didn't want the supporters of the Neville family to turn on him so he arranged a marriage for himself, and a match for Elizabeth. He was to marry Joanna of Portugal, and to keep an eye on his favorite niece, she was to marry a nephew/cousin of Joanna. That way even though he had forsaken her virtue, and ultimately ruined her reputation, he could still look after her and make sure she would be taken well care of. He promised her father he would always look after his princess. This letter clearly states Elizabeth's love for him, which is why Elizabeth told Norfolk not to send the letter because it would only bring trouble to Richard if it was intercepted by the wrong people. There is no real evidence of either Elizabeth or Richard’s actual feelings for each other. However it seems uncle and niece were on good terms while she was at court, good enough that he sent her a gift of two books. Both books had belonged to Richard when he was Duke of Gloucester. To give her two of his own books as gifts shows that he must have held her in some esteem. One of the books, Boethius’s Consolatio Philosophiae, bears Richard’s motto “Loyalte me lye”, likely written by Elizabeth and bearing her signature underneath. The other contains the inscription, not necessarily in Richard’s hand, “Iste liber constat Ricardo Duci Gloucestre”. On the same page Elizabeth wrote the motto she had chosen for herself, “sans removyr (without changing), Elyzabeth”. I think if you bought the book called Richard the Third by Paul Murray Kendall. It was first written in 1955, but has never been out of print. It is (I think) the definative work on everything there is to know about Richard, his brothers, and the Wars of the Roses. The writer is sympathetic to Richard's situation, where most others have many times simply called him evil for supposedly being responsible for his nephews deaths. It is not that simple, and the author explains why. It's a long-winded book, but as I said, the author covers nearly everything ever known and written about the subject. I love this book. It is simply "The Bible" on Richard III.

Personally I like Richard and Anne better. I think she was the love of his life. I believe he did fall in love with Elizabeth but he died shortly after. And even when was starting to feel for her, it was part of his plot and he still loved Anne. But, publicly showing his affection for his niece broke her heart. if you watched both series, you would understand. It's the same people, just played by different actors in White Queen and the White Princess. Elizabeth was Richard's niece through his brother King Edward 4th, and Richard was Richard III. Elizabeth was to marry the acclaimed King who would win the Battle of Bosworth, which ended up being Henry Tudor (Henry 7th). In the White Queen series, Elizabeth fell in love with her uncle, and wanted him to win, so she could marry someone she trusted.
