@@TexasNewsOwL it’s not personal, it’s the natural defense mechanism of an addict who’s in denial and doesn’t want to receive any attention or assistance in what they’re going through. It’s embarrassing and shameful to be repeatedly called out as a junkie. Out of all the hateful mean shit said on the air about him the only time he ever broke down crying was him simply admitting he had an addiction problem.

I went to a cocaine anonymous meeting. The person running the meeting told her story. She was at a party and got offered a line of coke. She did it and felt scared that she might try it again so she spent $35,000 to do a rehab and now she went to two meetings every night for over four years! I don't think she was an addict- she needed a shrink!
@marissac870Ай бұрын
There s a lot of people just like that. That go to meetings just for the fact there are people there and a way to interact with people. But it really urks me to hear people 30 yrs clean and the more they talk you realize they may not be a real addict. I know its a crazy jidgement call but whatever

Howard always treated Artie's addiction and mental problems as a joke that was good for the show. And he never paid attention to the signs when Artie started acting out angrily (and sometimes violently) or disinterested towards the show until it was too late. And that scared the crap out him.. and his solution was to vanished Artie completely from the show... never to be spoken about again.

No one was really equipped to address Artie's problems. He was one in a million as far as addicts go, a candidate for the top spot in the junkie hall of fame. When he dies he needs to donate his body to science so they can figure out the secret to his awesome powers. Most guys in his league like Belushi and Farley never got to see forty but Artie just redlined it and kept on trucking.
@damotheman419611 ай бұрын
Dude.. I mean you're not wrong. But both Belushi and Farley were well known to withstand one hell of a knees up. .. Until they weren't. I mean the guys went out while they were still making mad money when they passed..(farley was gna be Shrek FFS! 😂) maybe thats what saved Artie a little bit.. Whatever it is he has one hell of a constitution you're not wrong. Anyone that Norm had a genuine fondness for was usually alright by me.. People seemed to gravitate towards him and tryina help him.. Until they realise they can't. From all i hear now he's sober and doesnt want the nose fixed because they'd have to give him some strong painkiller. 🤷♂️
@silversnail141311 ай бұрын
@@damotheman4196 I hope Artie is truly sober now. I've followed his story for many years, listened to him on Stern and read all his books, and his life has been a rollercoaster ride of madness. As a fan you develop a bit of a love-hate thing with Artie after a while since he's definitely made some really bad decisions in his life but hopefully he can stay sober and enjoy the rest of his time on this earth. He and his loved ones deserve some peace.

I knew Artie was doomed when Dr. Drew said only 1 out 10 heroin addicts survive their addiction and it went right over Artie's head. Artie said some stupid joke. He was just told he was almost certainly going to die and he didn't take it seriously. I couldn't believe his reaction. I think he has survivors guilt for not holding the ladder and subconsciously wants to die.

Freaky right? Unfortunately, I missed this era, as I graduated highschool in 2009. I grew up with Howard and O&A as ever-present background drapery in my life, but wasn’t old enough to listen to them myself. Those days were better than the days I am currently living (a result of my own actions and no one else’s), and I’ve been trying to relive this awesome era through the shows I never got to watch. The amount of time between then and now saddens me despite being a fact of life, but I’d rather listen to these shows late than not at all. I appreciate these uploads too.

Being a former addict I know first hand that an addict won’t clean up their act until they decide for themselves to get clean. (Usually it’s when they hit rock bottom). It’s why interventions never work because while everyone is telling the addict how they love them and it hurts to see them that way, the addict is thinking of their next fix. So even if Howard wanted to do something t wouldn’t of worked.
