Lewis is one of those rare guests that just doesn't take shit from Stern. He makes Howard feel he is a loser. Great interview.

I miss Richard Lewis so much. His passing really had an effect on me. 😢. He had some personality and he always kept it real. What a guy. The bantering between Howard Stern and Richard Lewis was priceless. Both segments were great 👍. Richard was amazing ❤ 😊.

I love these old interactions between Stern and Lewis. Howard was so jealous of Richard - jealous Lewis was better looking than him, jealous he wasn't as funny as Lewis, and got beautiful woman. He felt threatened Stern did, that Richard got positive attention. He always had to put him down and make him seem smaller and less important than he was. Towards the end of Stern's show they both came around and learned to like one another. Find and watch newer interviews with Richard Lewis and you'll see there's huge difference.

Your nailed it! Moreover, Stern felt the need to put down anyone he felt was better, funnier, wealthier, et al than he. Notice how lost Howie is without Robin in the headphones. He’s totally uncomfortable.

It hurts me that Richard Lewis genuinely seemed angry here, although mostly just very annoyed with Howard. If this was an act on his part it was a very good one. Howard seems humored through the whole thing so if Richard really was upset Howard would have responded differently. Richard Lewis is a very funny standup and very handsome. He has also been very gracious in his interviews. I wonder what his mood was all about.

well, this was when he was still drinking, so he was probably drunk. i remember richard saying he had no memory of this interview. but the feuding between him and howard was an act. howard talked about it on the air once, maybe on History of Howard Stern. he said richard came up with the idea that they would always pretend to be pissed off at each other.
