Well most concert goers now are ugly yuppies no friends no social life and now in their 40s the only thing they have its money. So they can afford to pay hundreds to see 80s acts that they never saw in the 80s for being yuppies and scared of going to concerts back then alone while "fans will party all night with "friends" enjoying concerts. As simple as that. Compare crowds now with the 80s 80s 90s up to mid 2000s. Way different hey?

Good one from Marx but no match for Jim Morrison's legendary and mean "shut up!" at a whole bunch of people who could not keep quiet and started yabbering in the middle of the epic song. "Damn, give the singer some" and Jim's mood cheered up a bit and they went and The Doors finished it up. But not a version of When The Music's Over to match the Strange Days studio classic. Absolutely Live LP. So - it's not all peaches and cream being a famous singing star - the money is good but the whole deal and the pressure of fame drove poor Jim to drink.

Well in the video the woman yells “get back on the mic”, maybe she couldn’t hear him very well. That being said, he is doing music at a venue people paid to be at. If they choose to talk while he is singing, yes it’s rude to the other attendees. HOWEVER, at least from the video clip here, she didn’t seem like she was being rude or disruptive, she just wanted him to get back on the mic. Perhaps others around HER were talking and she couldn’t hear him very well. Either way, what he said was absolutely rude too. He could have handled that better for sure.

I think "get back on the mic"? I think she couldn't hear him. I have mixed feelings about this. She should not shout things even if she can't hear out of respect to the singer and the rest of the audience, but he shouldn't humiliate her. She might have special needs or similar. He could have dealt with it with more kindness.

I've seen Marx live/acoustic before and doing the unplugged thing. Love him. But ... Did he ask everyone in the audience: "Can everyone hear me?" If not, he should have. (Though, if you truly can't hear him, you wouldn't know he asked!) Anyway, the venue holds 1,800, so I'm guessing him showing off his pipes unplugged was ill-advised. If I'm in the back row and paid $150 to hear Marx, and coincidentally, Angelia is my favorite song of his, I'd be pissed if I couldn't hear it because he was singing it like he was in my living room and I couldn't hear his voice or the guitar. So, as always, there are two sides to this story, and I don't believe Marx should've performed this way if not everyone in the theatre could hear him well enough. There's a reason for amps and speakers, right? What was the fan supposed to do? Miss her favorite song and do without? Price of admission entitles her to see and hear a concert. Marx denied her that right by unplugging. He should be the one apologizing for performing a song someone couldn't hear. Berating her after the fact only made things worse. And so you know ... I consider myself a super fan of his, having read his autobiography, followed his career, and just being a lifelong supporter of his music.

No. I love Richard Marx. I saw him perform live in Clearwater 2 years ago. He did same thing. Inspired by a George Jones concert he went to as a youth. He thought it was a badass move. He has the best voice now of all the 80s rockers who can no longer sing. I love his music, love his Twitter posts, and think he's probably an awesome guy. This, however, was an oversight on his part. He needs to perform audibly. Period. That's his job as a concert performer. That seems fairly basic. He is not serenading a few. He needs to sing to 1,800.

Well, I think it's a matter of time and place. It's not karaoke night at the local bar. This guy's a professional performer, who has had hit records, a grammy award, and who has been doing this for decades. He knows how big the venue is, the acoustics, etc. if he's not using the mic, there's a reason for it. I'm not sure she quite deserved being called the B-word, but with an artist of this caliber, it's not really the audience's job to tell the artist how to do his/her/their job. And as for the story rick springfield told commiserating with him, I saw the video of that performance of My Father's Chair. He didn't say anything, but you could tell he was distracted. That's why he took to singing part of the song off mic. To help the audience keep quiet and listen, or like when I saw him last summer, softly sing along.

Why wouldn't people be quiet and polite at shows? Especially acoustic performances. As a sound guy with more than 40 years experience worldwide, I'd say that over the past decade or so American audiences have become incredibly rude not only towards the performers, but towards each other. Most people go to shows to listen to the music, not to listen to people yapping away and watching the show through their cell phones. My opinion - if you go to a show, STFU during the songs.
