It's a genius design. The NFL needs higher stands than Football because they have 100+ people standing around the sidelines (Which is why Wembley and Twickenham had tarps during their NFL games.), So they just built a lower pitch instead so that the stands are at the best hight for both sports. Plus the NFL gets a more durable turf while the Spurs get some beautiful grass. Best of both worlds

Its a BRITISH term and was used because at the start of the 20th Century We had RUGBY FOOTBALL (Still governed by the Rugby Football Union) and ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL (governed by the Football Association). These got shortened to "Rugger" for Rugby and "Assoccer" of what we now call Football. Assoccer got shortened to *SOCCER* .
