Lockdown continues in all its exhausting torpor, but Rich has come up with a new game show as well as becoming needlessly annoyed by a very old song. His guest is long time friend of the show and lone self-isolator, Richard Osman.
They chat about whether it’s better to be married or single during lockdown, dealing with the virus, how Henry Kelly might find himself a new job, how much money Michael Palin has, whether interviewing someone means you are now in their TV show, patricide, Strangers on a Train and Osman’s acting role in the greatest sitcom of all time. Osman is always among Herring's best guests. I love that he clearly listens to the podcast himself. I wish he could have gotten a microphone for this, though. Even an old iPhone headset would have been better than what we got here. C'mon man, you're a TV producer, ffs.

I can heartily recommend the classic Collings and Herrin podcasts for that. There's very little finer for nodding off. Try also the old Ricky Gervais XFM radio shows. Happy snoozing.

I'd forgotten about the Birthday Game podcast. Yes, more of that would be great for lockdown, it would fit in well with all the online Pub quizzes that have sprung up across KZbin. It's a shame that it seems to have been pushed back to afterthought status.

Rich appreciates a bit of banter, he is extremely humble though, I remember all these comedians who come on here and can't understand why he complains about how 'unsuccessful' he feels he is because they look up to him as a hero.

I would've thought a bigshot TV producer would have the best production value. I guess the cobbler's children have no shoes. Was that why you didn't mention The Cobbler. In the Cobbler, is the moral of the story that he spends all day walking around in other people's shoes, but never stops to consider that his children don't even have any shoes for him to walk in? Do Richard Osman's children not have access to broadcast quality film and audio equipment?

Although it is admittedly appropriate in this episode, I am getting a bit tired of the gameshow talk on these interviews, it used to take up about 5 minutes in an interview but it's grown to being almost a third of some interviews now, maybe more in a few cases. I get its Richard's favourite subject but there is more to life than gameshows.
