I had this album when I was 10 or 12. Used to sit in my room in the dark after bedtime and listen to it. Had it completely memorized back then. Oh, the memories! Today, thanks to youtube, I shared it with my 19 year old son. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

These companies releasing albums from same sets/ tours that he did just trying to cash in. The same jokes on at least three albums that i've listened to. Shame, but still a legend & one of, if not the, greatest stand-up comedians of all time.

A bit of a weird routine, but by listening to this and *The Wizard Of Comedy* (Laff, 1978) and *Black Ben The Blacksmith* (same info), you can see that although he would do the same setup for a routine, it would always be different, and no two performances would be the same. Two other great examples of this are the old-timer giving directions, and his fire-and-brimstone preacher routine ("...in the year nineteen twunny-nahhhhhnnnn!"). That's what makes the early recordings fascinating to hear!

That life in Peoria was real Richard had alot to feed off comedy wise and Im encouraged by the way he took his pain n turned it into laughter...Rockford isnt to far from Peoria and I grew up in this crap hole so it helps me Identify w him..and I use to struggle in the early crack epidemic myself til it dam near killed me one day after a real bad episode of drinking n smoking I cudnt take it anymore was tired of going to hospital..pretty sure I had reached the point of insanity...I feel youre pain Richard Pryor...youre in peace now and I cannot wait to meet you on the otherside of this wicked system.

Tiger Lily was a label run by Roulette's Morris Levy. He took a bunch of tapes he had in the vault and manufactured the albums, essentially without the artists' knowledge. then he sent a bunch of them out as promo copies and sent NONE to actual sales in stores, then claimed a huge loss for the whole thing for tax purposes. There was a certain loophole that allowed a few labels to do this in 1976/1977. This Pryor material might have been sitting in Levy's vaults for years until he got this opportunity to use it. This is by far the most common of all of the tiger Lily albums. My guess is that the promo copies were snapped up and sold by distributors even though they weren't supposed to do so, just because they knew Pryor could sell. There were also some Charlie Daniels albums on the label, and those showed up more commonly than other Tiger Lily albums as well.

+Ray Shifflett This is the album as it is presented in its original form. Any bad edits can be blamed on those who put it together. not unlike the exploit-o albums put out on Laff Records in the '70s.

If you have ever looked at a vinyl album, there are spaces between songs. This album has spaces between each topic. That is how all albums were made back then. I had the Up In Smoke album from the movie and each scene was separated by a space on that, too.

Yeah, it is pretty weird, this one. This must have been put out right before the Laff albums started coming out (and continued until 1983). It's been suggested that Richard himself supplied the tapes for this one, or had something to do with its release.
