I am age 71, and this is the first time I have heard these works. They are never played on our two local classical music radio stations. Thank you for your efforts. It made my day :) 20 January 2016

You are a master performer/interpreter of the highest rank. Your sensitivity and passion for these pieces are truly jaw-dropping. And not to mention the craft and amazing melodic lines and harmonic colors inherent in these pieces of the young Strauss - quite a revelation. Thank you for posting these gems.

It's interesting how early works of composers reveal the influence of composers they admire. In this case from the beginning there are traces of Mendelssohn, Schumann, and even in some of the sweet melodies a touch of Schubert. As Strauss came into his own he blossomed into an orchestral master who employed every color in the rainbow. These early pieces are so refreshing and masterfully performed.

@@robertp9838 Yes, and what a beauty it is! Gould had eclectic tastes and could revel in lushest romanticism. Actually, I believe he also recorded the first Andante of this collection too.

Actually let me come back - These pieces are so easily "readible" ... that they don´t seem coming from Richard Strauss. Congratulations Tibor, excellent discovery.

It's not difficult to understand why Brahms admired the music of Strauss
@69EBubu2 жыл бұрын
Except that this Opus 3 sounds more like Schumann than Richard Strauss... ;) At the age of 16/17, Strauss still hadn't found his own style, to the contrary of a Korngold who, by the age of 13 had already found a totally personal unmistakenable style.
