Shades of Mendelssohn's "Mid-summer Night's Dream" scherzo in the first movement, Schubert's "Rosamunde" incidental music in the second, early orchestral Beethoven in the third, and von Weber's "Oberon" in the fourth. Nothing to hint of the original, rich tonal master to come, but very good for a teenager. More than biographically interesting, however, his youthful composition is an appealing work in itself, don't you agree?

I like his 2 symphonies much better than his tone poems. Why do composers feel the need for an external program? Why can't music just come from within????

"External programs" were for audiences, not composers. They were expected, just like audiences expected a ballet to be seen at the end of the second act of operas.

This symphony is the No.1 and it's without opus number becaouse Op.4 is the suite: Richard Strauss: Suite in B Flat op.4 - Praeludium (I)

Strauss's early pieces have various opus numbers - this Symphony can also be called the Op 4.

ATTENTION - you should correct your title! - Opus 4 is the Suite in B-flat major for 13 wind instruments - Strauss' first symphony - the d-minor - is a work without opus number.

Salvo que la música invariablemente pueda ser conectada con alguna marcha cuya LETRA incunfundiblemtne sea de órden político. Richard Strauss como Furtwängler fué "ENTNAZIFIZIERT" que quiere decir "desnazificado" despues de la caida del Reich. Su música denota todo el esplendor post-romántico de su época y por lo tanto es INMACULADA!!

E' vero che Strauss non diede numero d' opera a questa sinfonia, tuttavia il numero glielo ha dato Franz Trenner nel suo catalogocompleto delle opere di Strauss. Il numero d' opera esatto è : 69 Un altro studioso, von Asow, che aveva in precedenza compilato un catalogo incompleto delle opere del musicista aveva dato lo stesso numero a questa sinfonia.

La musica de Richard Strauss es extraordinaria!, me da la impresion que el no tiene ni tuvo el reconocimiento musical que tuvieron demas compositores de la epoca como Wagner, Bruckner, Mahler y demas. Lo unico que me queda abierto a cerca de el, es su relacion con el Reich III, fue colaborador de los sanguinarios los nazis? o fue el una victima de ellos?

Tiene tanto reconocimiento o más que ellos, no más que wagner o en la actualidad mahler pero más que bruckner seguro y sobre todo tuvo mucho reconocimiento mientras vivía, algo que mahler por ejemplo con sus composiciones no vivió. Con respecto a los nazis, no adhirió a las teorías antisemitas, su relación con Stefan zweigt lo demuestra, hasta le daba lo mismo, era una persona que vivía en su mundo, además que sus nietos eran judíos y los nazis lo apretaron para que se mantenga fiel al régimen o su familia podía ser deportada a los campos

Richard Strauss è stato un pessimo compositore. Di buono ha scritto soltanto il Così parlò Zarathustra. Il resto sono accozzaglie di note.
