Thank you for posting this..thank you Richard for writing this ..Truly a parent's lament of watching your grown children go through great difficulties in their lives. I believe I read somewhere that Richard wrote this for his daughter when she was going through a hard time in her life. Once your a parent the worst pain you can feel is when your children are hurt..no matter how old they are. This song could be for anyone you care about going through hard times..

This song is how I learned of Mr. Thompson's music. There is a cover of this song on "Adieu False Heart," a Linda Ronstadt/Ann Savoy Album. I heard that and had to search for the author. Never before have I discovered such a gold mine of great music. Well, maybe once before when I learned about Chris Smither from a cover of "Visions of Johanna." Anyhow, I'm happy to finally see a video of Richard Thompson doing this song - Thanks!
